@Raindrop: that's what I'm so worried about. The crib sides are solid and he takes big falls !!!

@Mrs. Taco: ok. Thanks. ,I was trying to show him how to get down by bending his knee but sitting back on butt seems much safer . Phew. Thanks!

@Mrs. M: yep. That's me, paranoid momma!!! It's scary though. I'll be giving him a lot of practice.

How long did it take your lo to get more balanced?

We bought a video monitor at this point! She started obsessively doing this in her crib at 7-months and it scared me to death. She fell straight back in her crib (only once thankfully) when she first learned to do this and had two indentations in her head from the crib. The pediatrician assured me she was probably fine, but asked me to monitor her for the next day and check her in the middle of the night (which scared me even more). I watched the video monitor (as I heard her wake from a nap) and as soon as she was standing, I ran and got her out of the crib. Glad that is over!!! Maybe a little drastic, but I was paranoid until she wasn't so wobbly.

I gave her as much practice as she wanted around the house (with me right behind her) and she was a pro in no time. I tried using the pack and play, but she learned how to pull to standing in that too!

We're dealing with this now as well. Everywhere else besides the crib, I just hoover and make sure she falls backwards on her butt, rather than to the side. For her crib, she's 'fallen' down a few times but the mattress catches her fall and she laughs. I think it's really a learning process....that makes us anxious as can be

Just go with it. They fall for a while but then it gets better. We put foam edging around our coffee table but that is about all we did.

This happened to us a lot... LO fell hard a couple of times and cried a lot... I once asked the ped about this and he said it was nothing to worry about all kids go through this but he did suggest reading up on concussion signs just in case. I was quite worried.

We just went with the flow. She would pull herself up and get 'stuck' because she couldn't figure out how to get back down. This would lead to her crying for me to rescue her.

Don't miss those days :silly:

My LO started pulling up at 6.5 months so I just tried to let him practice a lot in a 'safe' spot so that he got more coordinated. Honestly though, I've always been pretty relaxed about him taking spills.

@Bookish: hover is exactly what I've been doing since he figured it out!!! Now if he wakes in his crib he goes right to pulling himself to standing...so no crying it out anymore.

Is it safer to move them to a pack n play until they get the balance thing down??? He can't pull up in the pack n play.

My LO is about 8 months and has started to do the same thing. For now, until she gets more stable, I just hover and redirect. If she's really determined to pull up on the coffee table, I let her, but I keep an arm right there in case she falls.

Is there something I need to be doing here because this is crazy......my 8 month old learned to pull himself up and he's really strong! So now that's all he wants to do! The thing is he doesn't have the balance yet so he falls and I'm afraid he gonna crack his head....like the crib, he falls sideways and I'm afraid if he falls hard in the crib he could get REALLy hurt!!!! What did you do????
