ugh! I would just stick with it. My son refused to drink from a bottle when he started daycare at 5 months. It was SO stressful... we had to introduce solids earlier than planned because we could get him to eat most of the breastmilk from a spoon with some oatmeal... EVENTUALLY, and I'm talking like, 3 months later, he started drinking from a bottle... he looooved to nurse, and would definitely nurse more when I got home. i was happy when he turned 1 and we could do mostly food, so at least you're close!

Thanks all! She took one ounce of fresh breast milk today, so that’s a bit of progress. She also took water today. I think she’ll be fine. I’d just rather not nurse more often at night. I was hoping to reduce it instead, but she seems to have other ideas.

I think peer pressure is a big factor in day care. She'll probably soon pick up whatever the other kids are doing - probably cups or sippies, and if the other kids are older and not drinking milk, she may prefer whatever they're drinking. My kids started day care at 10 months and I only brought in milk for a couple of weeks, tops. They weren't drinking it anyway, but drank water very nicely all day.

I'd ask them to keep trying (bottle, cups, whatever) but I wouldn't be that stressed since she's almost 1 and also nurses. My 2nd was like this too. Even now at 17 months she doesn't really drink any type of milk but is still nursing.

Have you tried a weighted straw cup like the Munchkin, lollacup, or zoli? My DD refuses the bottle but she drinks out of those no problem.

Definitely not a big deal since she’s almost a year. She’s getting plenty from you still too. If she wasn’t still nursing it would still be fine. Many kids don’t transition to cow milk or an alternative milk after stopping breastfeeding or formula if they’re getting adequate nutrients elsewhere. Also DD1 started reusing a bottle at 10 months (she still nurses pretty frequently when I was around) and it definitely wasn’t a concern.

I haven't dealt with this, but I was talking to a friend who did who said it's common. I love kellymom for tips.

I sent a 360 and a sippy, both things we use at home (but typically for water). She wanted nothing to do with either one, they said. The contents are thawed breast milk. I sent fresh breast milk today in case that’s the issue. My first didn’t like thawed milk but was often okay with fresh.

Were they giving it to her in a cup or bottle? Because it sounds like she has no bottle practice at home, so I wouldnt expect her to do well with one for the first daycare days
I also wouldn't bother getting her used to a bottle at this age... I'd try to emphasize straw cup or 360 cup practice at home.

What do you do? My 11 month old just started daycare and refuses milk all day (she’s two days in). She is willing to eat solids at lunch.

At home, I breastfeed her directly or occasionally give her fresh breast milk in a cup. She feeds 3 times a day and a couple times overnight. She woke up to nurse so many times last night; I need her to get most of her milk during the day!
