I like BBB better, but I feel like they jack up the prices and let you use coupons so you think you are getting a better deal. If I had to do it again I would do Amazon and target!

@pastemoo: Near my house - they are actually across the street from one another - it is absurd!

@runnerd: I know I always prefer to shop online and amazon is my favorite for all of the free shipping! It's going to be tricky to figure out the right balance between in store and amazon options. I think ultimately I'll choose based on price!

@lady baltimore: @meadow: I just wanted to add that I did target and Amazon last time, and everyone has much easier access to Target but I still found that more was purchased from my Amazon registry. Guess at least in my crew including extended family, online shopping is popular.

I did 100% of my target registry online, but I did try to limit that registry to items I personally had seen in stores.

We registered at BBB only because their selection of items is so much better. We live closer to a Babies R Us, but I avoid it as much as possible.

Same as @peaches1038, when we tried shopping at BRU, they had almost none of the items we wanted or they were out of stock. It was SUCH a waste of time and so frustrating. We didn't even register there, but we got three gift cards that we were trying to use up.... we ended up buying lots of wipes and one "big ticket" item they actually had.

We registered at BRU, but only bc our families don't live near a BBB even though we do. BRU has pretty terrible customer service and I found that they were out of stock on a lot of items that I had had on my registry. I ended up doing about 90% on the Amazon registry because of this. Anyway, all that to say, BBB all the way!

Also, I did almost all of the registry online, but there were some things I wanted to see in person with DH. So I made a list of what I wanted to check out in person with all my options. That way, I had a game plan and we weren't just wandering around. That really helped with DHs endurance haha.

@meadow: I believe you can start it online, then go in and talk to the registry people and just let them know you filled it the initial stuff online. You should still get the goodie bag then. You have to talk to them to get the registry gun anyway.

@T.H.O.U.: Oh I do fully intend to do a decent amount in the store - I just know that I can type my name/address/due date etc faster than a person sitting at the desk.

@MamaBear87: Good point about the welcome goody bag - I wouldn't want to miss out on that! With twins on the way - I don't want to miss out on any of the freebies!! Good point that I could stop by do a little bit then bring hubby back another day.

@meadow: the downside to registering online is that there are many more items that are online only meaning harder for guests to just run out and grab. If you're careful when doing the online registery to make sure you have in store items you'll be fine.

I registered at bru online and got gypped of the welcome package. Bbb has better customer service tho so I'm guessing that wouldn't happen. If it's close I'd just go in by myself, set up the registry and take a gander around the store and bring husband another day after that
Registering is super fun but rather overwhelming!

@lady baltimore: I agree. We are lucky in that 95% of our family is local so their shopping access is similar to ours.

In general - anyone know if there is a downside to starting the registry online? I want to bring my husband with me for my first trip to register so we can do some of the bigger decision items in person and with the guidance of someone from the store, but then I fully plan to do more and edit from home. However, I know his patience is going to be lower in general, so I'd rather not have to fill out our name and stuff there. HAHA.

The one caveat I have about BBB is that they don't seem to have the market saturation of BRU (or maybe I just manage to never live near one, even when I move from state to state), so it might not be convenient if you expect gifts from people who don't live near you. Shouldn't be a big issue, though, if you have the Amazon registry, too.
