@.twist.: Me too! My husband walked in on me at 3 am decorating the Christmas tree (might as well be productive if im gonna be awake) with a screaming baby in the carrier, and I was singing Its the End of the World by REM to him. Pretty sure I turned in my ticket to hop aboard the crazy train.

For us this ended up being (a very frustrating) wait it out. She would roll back to belly but then get "stuck". We would go in, roll her to her back and she would do the same thing again. This would go on dozens of times before falling asleep. We just kept our reaction to the rolling consistent and did lots of tummy time practice to master the skill. Once she had rolling on her own down we stopped rolling her to her back and DD finally got comfortable sleeping on her tummy (this was at 6 months and the pedi said tummy sleeping was fine since she rolled in that position herself and had the control to roll back.) Now she's a tummy sleeper and sleeps best that way.

My LO has always hated sleeping on her stomach too. She is also a side sleeper and before she gained more control of her body, she often ended up on her stomach and woke up screaming whenever she realized it. She had no issues flipping to her back when awake, but wouldn't do it while asleep. We rode it out and would flip her over and calm her whenever she cried - it was the roughest from 6mth - 7/7.5mths. She's almost 11 mths now and still hates sleeping on her stomach, but rarely ends up in that position anymore. When she occasionally does, sometimes she'll still cry, but most of the time she can now flip herself back over. Hang in there!

We are in the same situation, just opposite rolling direction! I have a tummy sleeper who FREAKS if he flips onto his back (which is often). He knows how to roll back to tummy if he's playing and calm, but when he's freaking out in his crib he can't figure it out.

I hope they all figure it out and this is something we can laugh about soon! I'm so tired!

OMG, we are in the exact same situation! The only good thing is that for the most part L loves sleeping on his tummy so there's only been a few occasions where he's gotten pissed off and we had to go in and move him.

Hope these little guys figure out how to roll tummy to back soooon!

We rode it out too It was rough but she now can roll back and forth fine and sleeps most nights on her tummy the whole time I never had experienced this with my son but it does seem to help her sleep longer and better now that she can sleep on her stomach

We put a diaper changing pad in the crib and laid DS on that. The sides went up so if he tried to roll he would stay on his side. We made sure he couldn't fall off it. I also put towels on the side at first just in case. He was fine. That lasted for about a month or two. We took it out when he was starting to try to sit up. By then, his rolling was really good and he wasn't as freaked out when he ended up on his tummy.

We rode it out...I went through a period of going in and flipping him every time he rolled to his tummy and after I while I let him fuss for a while before I did it. He figured it out eventually! It's a sucky phase though!

@rahlyrah: these days I leave him. he's getting more used to sleeping on his back, and has (finally!) figured out that he can just roll himself back and go back to sleep!

when he was younger (like 6m - a year) if i felt like he was asleep deep enough, i would often go in and flip him over as soon as i noticed. i have a pretty deep sleeper though, so YMMV ;)

@Penny Lane: He is all over the place in his sleep. He will sleep for hours on his side, but he wakes up several times during the night and kicks and spins.

If you notice LO is on his back at night do you proactively go in and flip him or do you wait until he wakes up? I want to flip him when I see it ahead of time but I'm scared it will wake him.

how much does LO move while he sleeps? would it be possible to roll up a towel or something and put it in front of his belly so he can't roll? no higher than, like, chest level or something, obvs, so he can't bury his face in it some how?

other than that i'm not really sure! i sympathise though, my LO has always been a tummy sleeper, and would regularly roll on his back in his sleep and freak the crap out. he still wakes up and freaks sometimes now if he wakes up on his back, and he's 15 months! i just have to roll him back to calm him now though :)

hopefully you figure something out, and soon!

B has recently mastered rolling back-to-belly but is still struggling with rolling belly-to-back unassisted. He also HATES being on his stomach. No problem, except he is a side sleeper and the past two nights he has managed to roll himself onto his stomach multiple times while he's asleep. Sometimes he will stay that way for an hour or so but when he wakes up he immediately goes into a panic. He starts screaming and it is difficult to calm him down.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening or is this just something we need to ride out? We've been doing a lot of tummy time to try to help him master the other direction.

He is cutting a tooth which is already causing extra wakings. I can't handle many more of these rolling panics on top of them. :(
