@Goldengirl: it doesn't bounce at all. It sits them completely up. Just a chair with a tray basically

@Mrs. Sunshine: this is really cute! Does it act differently than our bouncer does though or is it the same thing? We have just a basic bright starts bouncer.

@SweetCaroline: haha! Yah I'm not sure when he'll grow out of the bouncer or what the recommendation is.

@looch: Yes I Do! Although right now he can't sit up so he just kind of lounges on it.

Sounds like a blanket on the floor might suffice.. just not sure when he'll actually be able to sit so for now that's not an option but maybe soon??

We used a blanket on the floor, or her soft IKEA baby gym. By that age, if she was ok with not being held, she wanted to try to roll, check out her toys, and look around.

really the floor on a blanket is the best place for them developmentally.

That said LO2 spends a lot of time in the bjorn bouncy seat because it keeps him a bit contained.

He is huge and getting frustrated with the bouncer so we put him in the highchair sometimes. He's almost 6 months and not so droopy anymore so I feel ok about it for short times.

I wish he was on the floor all the time, but it just doesn't work with LO1 around.

We skipped a seat but did splurge on an exersaucer for when baby wanted to be upright.

We got a Bjorn bouncer for LO1 and it should last much longer than a normal bouncer. We never used anything with LO1 and it was fine (we didn't do exersaucers or those types of "standing" containers either).

I had to have the Bumbo, but it was a complete waste. We used it maybe 4 times and I even went as far as getting the attachable tray table that you couldn't even use with the kid sitting in it! If I had to do it all over again, I would skip it.

Do you have a boppy? You can use that to support them sitting.

@Goldengirl: we got the summer infant seat with the high chair part. It was worth the $20, especially because it became our high chair for awhile.

I have tiny kids, so for us a bumbo was useful (we used it for feeding until they got big enough for a high chair, closer to nine months or so probably - and yes, I used it on the floor b/c of fall risks if you put it on the table).

With DD2, my mom showed me that an OT she'd worked with had told her that the best tool for a baby to practice sitting is a cardboard box! You can line it with blankets if you feel better about it, but by sort of wedging their bum into a corner and letting their legs make a v along the sides, you give them a little bit of support in a natural position (and can also contain a few toys right their with them).

I'd also say just don't worry too much about "making" the baby sit - blanket & tummy time are great!

@Beehive: totally agree. My LO drank her milk in it until she was 13 or 14 months. She loved that thing. They go on sale on Amazon every now and then if you aren't particular about colors

The Bjorn bouncer seat lasts a long time (it's made for a wide age range), so if your baby loves being in a bouncer that may be a good solution.

Is this your first kid? Do you plan on having more? If so, then maybe you can justify a seat, but I'd just use a blanket.

For me that was just an extra something to kick around. DD used a bouncer for 6 months, until she tried to be Houdini and climb out.

I think plopping him on the floor on a blanket is best. That said some babies get really impatient especially if they want to sit up and look around! If you are thinking about getting a jumperoo or exersaucer anyway this might be a good time- though he's probably a little young for that. A bumbo or similar kind of seat can be helpful in a few situations, including as an extra high chair when you have other babies over.

We lived in a small condo when both my kids were that age so it wasn't much of an issue for us and we didn't have space for anything extra. I think I would try blanket on the floor and see if he is happy that way before buying anything else.

I hated the seat we had for DD1. We used this seat for DD2 https://m.buybuybaby.com/m/product/fisher-price-reg-sit-me-up-floor-seat-with-tray/1043191352?skuId=43191352&mcid=PS_googlepla_nonbrand__&adpos=1o7&creative=88349065380&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&product_id=43191352&gclid=Cj0KEQiA3Y7GBRD29f-7kYuO1-ABEiQAodAvwP0S5E_uPzz0dVZiUEvCE-eXXNgMIMWzIrT9DiFS3jQaAkan8P8HAQ

It was a big hit and I think it's pretty helpful. Especially for curious LO's as they like to see what's going on but don't necessarily have the physical skills to help them do that. I had average age sitters and found it pretty useful. Even after they can sit on their own, they still fall so it's nice to have for the times when you can't quite supervise them in the way they might need.

Once LO is out of the bouncer stage (I'm not really sure when that is?) and he's able to sit up a bit more, is a baby seat necessary/helpful? I like taking him around the house with me and plopping him down while I do chores and whatnot, but I'm realizing he'll probably outgrow the bouncer soon (he is 4 months) but don't necessarily want to just plop him on the floor.

Is there a baby seat you'd recommend, or are those in the category of "something new parents think they need but you don't"? To clarify, LO can't currently sit on his own (without collapsing on his face).
