My sister sent out a lovely email to just very small group of close friends and family explaining that we are not having a shower, but just FYI if you would like to get the new parents some gifts below is their registry info. </p> <p>My sister said she's been getting really positive responses. It sounds a little out there and I'm not sure I would even do it myself but what about sending out invitations or even just e-vites and have a big group skype date or g-chat party or something along those lines? Perhaps someone could create a couple of virtual baby shower games or the e-vite could encourage people to dress for a theme (pj party, going out attire, fancy dress, gender colors if you know what you're having or have them dress in their guess (boy or girl) if you don't know what you're having, etc.) Everyone could offer advice or mention a favorite baby book or whatever. Someone I know was in your position and sent us all an email stating that since she lives far away, she is unable to have a shower and was therefore having her own "online" shower for her unborn child and to please select a gift that we could purchase for them. The woman was registered at a couple places and her husband went and picked up all the gifts, wrapped them and decorated the house for her. On the other side family and friends were gathered and had arranged for her husband to help her out with "baby bingo", and another game. She opened all the gifts on skype, and had her husband keep track of what came from who. It was really sweet. If people want to give you a gift, they will give you a gift if you have a shower or not! My SIL had this same problem and she did not have a shower. My extended family is all across the East and Mid West and my friends are spread out. I've been to quite a few parties where the parents would host a dinner at their house to help "welcome their baby". I thought it was a great idea and everyone had so much fun. And they registered too.
