@joyjoy: That's really weird that they wouldn't at least make sure you were free the day of!

I'm totally out of the loop for one of mine. I just found out that they were planning it for a day that I'll be attending a wedding, and I only found out because I asked if I could at least know the date. They were trying to surprise me. I'd feel so bad if I hadn't found out ahead of time and ended up being busy when they tried to surprise me.

I'm having 2 showers. One my SIL is hosting at my MIL's house and I know when and where to show up. I vaguely know the colors/theme based on the invitation and know that they've picked up some antique platters for serving things. I can make guesses as to what else will happen but I really don't have a clue. I kinda sorta know the guest list but they've made a few changes.

The other shower is being hosted by my sister and our childhood neighbor and it's at my house. I know the theme and have seen the invitations and my sister ran down the food that's being prepared. I also know the guest list (because I made it). Other than that I don't have a clue.

It's kind of nice to not know what's going on. I'll just show up and enjoy.

I have been kept out of the loop of the shower my friends (the bridesmaids from my wedding) are throwing me. They know I'm not a fan of games and don't like the spotlight on me so I hope they take that into account, whcih I'm sure they will! It's a brunch, so I'm excited. Afterwards we are going to my friend's family pond to relax and swim and layout (it's a large pond with a boat and floating dock to layout on.)

I didn't really know what was going to happen at mine, but I had a good idea. My family knows I don't like games, so I knew it would just be eating, opening presents, and mingling. It was also coed, and at a minor league baseball stadium, so the game entertained the boys.

I've been to all sorts of different showers. Most have games.... but usually they aren't too bad.

I've been to more co-ed ones, and those are generally pretty fun. The one that wasn't was simple. There was food and people mingled/wrote wishes for the baby and mommy. We played a few games, but nothing too exciting.

Anyone else have friends/relatives plan your baby shower so that you had no idea what was going to happen?

My SIL is hosting mine at my mom's house next week, halfway across the country (we were going out there for the 4th and my nephew's 2nd birthday. I know the time, the guest list (way more limited than my mom was initially intended, thank goodness), and that I'll be making the watermelon bassinet (90% of us are dieting - fruit makes sense.) Otherwise, I haven't the foggiest idea what they are planning.

I've only been to 3 baby showers. Two were awkward (all women, games that no one actually seemed to enjoy and had to be coaxed into playing, people being forced to take cake - surely, that can't be the norm?) and one was enjoyable (co-ed backyard BBQ with a movie on for kids.) After the first, I actively avoided them - the second two were for my oldest godson and the kid whose delivery I attended. What have others' baby showers been like?
