I literally posted almost the exact same thing a week or so ago about my almost 9 month old. I want to rip my ears off and there's no stopping it. Unfortunately no advice, haha. Just support! The best advice I kept getting basically was it's a phase. Hoping that's the case.

Ours started really early... DH even made a video about it, comparing it to a scene in Dumb and Dumber. I want to say it stopped around a year.

Oh, I love the shrieking for no reason.... because it makes a change from the angry, frustrated, whiney shrieking!!

Like @Mrs. Blue:, I have bad news ;)

LO went through a baby pterodactyl phase around 11 months, and it was bad for a few weeks but then passed. Now, at 15 (almost 16 months) he's doing it again!! Especially in the car and the kitchen, where his voice reeeeeally echoes, so that's nice.

For stuff like this, I try to just remember "this too shall pass." There's nothing I can do about it, at least nothing I've figured out. Hope yours is over soon.

Yep - right there with you. LO is nearly five months old and she loves to screech! Not distressed, not upset, just 'singing' as we call it. It drives me absolutely insane - especially when she 'sings' to herself in her cot at 4:00 in the morning and wakes up her 2 year old sister. It's super, super fun, ha.

She's been doing it for a few weeks now, on and off, and shows no sign of stopping any time soon. :bummed:

@Applesandbananas: I'm really trying to teach my LO to say "help" right now too. Instead of screaming :)

My DD just started shrieking this week! She always takes a second to catch her breath then let it all out and then do it all over again. She's not upset and doesn't cry after, she's just testing her voice. She sounds like what I imagine a baby pterodactyl must have sounded like. :silly: I hope it passes soon!

Hugs, Mama.

My LO has been doing this since 11ish months (he's 15m) and his EI told me to encourage LO to use his words.

So if LO is screaming because he can't get his toy, I'll say "No no, LO, use your words. 'help, mama'" he's has started pointing and going "uhh, mama" or "ahh, mama" or some variation... Probably about half the time. If he's in a good mood and it's not something he's rabidly after, he's much more apt to point and make some sort of request rather than screaming.

Good luck!

@Foodnerd81: Unfortunately, I don't have quite as positive news as @blackbird: & @Pumuckl:. Our screeching phase is ongoing still and it's definitely been over a month. We just keep trying to shush them, but it's sooooo annoying. It's made worse by the fact that they apparently extra love the sound a screech makes in the car, so that's how the now entertain themselves on all car trips. It's suuuuper fun.

C is in a super fun phase where she just likes to shout and shriek for no reason. Not like, I'm upset and I'm crying really loud, or even shrieking with laughter, just, oh hey, listen to this awesome noise I can make! Listen again. And again.

I realize this is probably pretty normal, but it's *really* annoying. Any recommendations on ways to discourage it? She is 11 months, so it's not like she understands me saying, Quiet, C, please don't yell. I try just looking away and ignoring her for a minute, but I think sometimes that just makes her shriek again to get my attention.

If your LO went through this phase, how long did it last?
