I remember reading that series when I was younger though. I think I found the original one at a book fair and kinda got hooked. I think there's something to be said for that particular series, at least, in that it teaches younger kids about the realities of death in a narrative fashion. This series is about a girl with leukemia, and my own (extended) family has faced far more than our fair share of cancer, so while they are maybe not light reading, I can see how they help you understand the concept of death in a way?
