Yep, normal! When they are so young, they go through so many growth spurts and mental leaps. I use the Wonder Weeks app and both my DDs get worse sleep during these leaps/development periods.

I basically just try to be mindful about their wake times, don't put them down too early/too late, watch their cues as best as I can, and that's really it. Currently DD2 is 5 months and she takes like 30-45 min naps being held too, haha! I bedshared with both since that's what worked for us. Hang in there!!

Oh and to add DD2 def doesn't eat as much during the day b/c she nurses so often at night!

Baby sleep is always changing! At that age, I just rolled with it, and nothing lasted more than a few weeks. My LO pretty much always napped while being held and took a lot of very short cat naps at that age. By 3 or 4 months, she was napping in the crib exclusively - still sleeping short stretches, but consistently taking 4 naps a day at pretty regular times.

It sounds like he is just being a (normal) baby!

The biggest lesson I learned with my first was that babies just do what they need, and it's constantly changing. You can google just about any week and find someone wondering if their kid is going through a growth spurt, a sleep regression, or a developmental leap, and someone will say yes :) There are more common times for those things, sure, but there is also a range of things like "the 4m sleep regression can happen anytime between 3-5m and last from 2d-2m" etc etc. So if you are looking for a "reason" you can probably find one!

It helped me a lot to not worry about why it was happening (or just assume the simplest answer) and solve the problem. He's waking up and wants to eat? Probably a growth spurt and I will feed him. He's not napping on his own? Must just want some extra snuggles & bonding time.

I'm on my 3rd kiddo, and I would say I have tried similar things (re: sleep, especially) with all of them, and it all has taken a little different based on their personalities! :)

Hang in there!

@Weswife: Some babies start waking up more at night once their mom returns to work simply because they miss her and want more time with her. Some babies don't eat well at daycare and end up reverse-feeding and waking more at night to eat to make up for it. It's annoying, but normal!

As for the naps - my firstborn didn't nap much AT ALL as an infant. I thought babies were supposed to sleep like 16-17 hours a day at that age and mine only slept ~10. Plus he did catnaps (20-30 minute naps). Unfortunately, also normal!

Hugs! You're doing just fine, mama! <3

New mom question...

Ok everything I read says baby should sleep around 6-7 hrs during the day and 8-10 at night. He is 9 weeks. Before I went back to work he slept through the night about six hours. The day I went back he started waking up. Also he doesn't really nap during the day and the only way we can get him to nap for a short time is yo hold him while he is asleep.

Does anyone know why he would be waking up and why he doesn't sleep. Or is he doing fine. He will sleep about 4 hours at night. But I am wondering is it a growth spurt... he's hungry all the time and he is big. He is already 25 inches long...

We feel like we are failing at parenting!
