Yeah. My 9 month old often sleeps with her head tossed back like that. She does it on either side, and I never side nursed, so I think it's just a thing she likes to do. For most of the night she tends to sleep on her stomach, so I'm not too worried about her sleep positioning...

@sunny: DD did the same thing around that time. She grew out of it and now sleeps on her stomach with her butt in the air :-)

She's almost 5 months. I guess I will ask at our next appointment. I wonder if this is related to side nursing in bed...?

From birth my daughter did this. We actually brought it up to a pediatric physical therapist that we saw out of office. She said it looked like she was just in a backward position in utero (instead of the fetal position she kinda was the other way). She said to just make sure she spent some time in the swing/car seat to help stretch the muscles in the back of her neck (practice tucking her chin to her chest).

Babies will sleep the way they are comfortable so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can also ask your pedi about it and they are trained too to stretch the head/neck to make sure the muscles are right.

How old is your LO? Up until DS was about 3 months old, he slept like that constantly. He's easing up on it now (almost 4 months), but he still does it. Our ped said it was fine.

I've been watching my LO sleep on the monitor and I noticed that she spends a lot of time sleeping with her back really arched.

Should I be worried? Does anyone else's LOs sleep in strange positions?
