LO was a late walker, started taking a few baby steps around 16 months and took another month before really walking.

I don't know how to categorize J. At 9 months he started taking 1-2 steps, then it was like he decided he was just not ready yet and stopped trying. Then at 10 months he just started walking, 8-10 steps at a time. Now at 11 months, he rarely crawls and is super fast.

LO1 never took baby steps, it was litearlly one day she just started walking (totally her personality)

LO2 has been taking baby steps for weeks now and is so hesitant then she switches to crawling. I know she can walk she just scares herself out of it. This is totally her personality.

I have one outgoing/crazy "I can do it" child and my other is more reserved and observant, she watches everyone like a hawk, they are total opposites.

He took a few steps and built up, starting around 11 months. By 12 months he was quick. Now at 20 months, he is sprinting!

Build up. Right at 10mos he started taking one or two lunging steps to get between pieces of furniture (or parents!) to cruise along. Within a week from then he was taking an occasional 2-3 completely unsupported steps -- but only if he didn't notice. Over the course of the next two weeks he built up to being a very confident independent walker. He's probably still faster crawling than walking (11mos now), but I think that will change pretty rapidly.

DS took baby steps at 11m. Took a couple months for him to really walk full time instead of crawling.

DS1 never took first steps. Just waited until he could fully walk, which he did at 14.5 months.

DS2 took first steps and tried for a long time to launch himself across the room. That started at exactly 11 months. He was walking more by 12 months and walking exclusively by just before 13 months.

She had a couple of days where she would just take a few steps at a time but then she was off! I was surprised how fast she transitioned but it made since to me that once she figured out she could walk that it would be her preferred method of transportation.

@oliviaoblivia: that is early! I love seeing little babies walking, it's the cutest thing ever!

@kodybear: That's like my lo1, it's so her personality! She won't do anything until she's absolutely ready, and there's no changing her mind before then.

One of each! Lo1 took about a full month from first steps to walking longer. Lo2 was right off the bat. Literally one day he decided he wanted to walk, so he stood up and walked across the room. And he did that multiple times that weekend! They both started walking at 15 months ish. This is pretty reflective of their personalities though lo1 is super cautious even as a 3 yo. DS is active!

Both of my big girls were build up walkers. They were both very early walkers at ten and eight months.

Did you LO start with baby steps ( a few at a time and progressing from there?) Or, just full on walking right off the bat?

With Lo1, she never took baby steps. She would take a step or two from the couch to the coffee table, but she would never take free standing steps. At 17 months, she just started walking one night. On the video, we counted over 60 steps for her first time.

Lo2 is is progressing. She started standing and taking two or so steps, and has built up to around 10. She's been really sick this week, but I think once she's better, she will probably be walking full time soon.

So, did you have an off the bat walker, or a build up walker?
