Ya I just let zuma learn. And now she sort of limits herself and chews a lot more.

Like others said, I would give just a little bit of a couple different choices. He still did it, but it wasn't as bad :) Every baby I know does this too! Totally normal. They outgrow it eventually :)

I limited the amount on her tray, or let her take pieces one at a time from my hand.

We've done BLW since 6.5 months and she still likes to shove as much as possible into her mouth at 8.5 months. We watch her closely and take some away when she's putting too much in her mouth at once.

@Danizaur: my LO did this, we called him a chipmunk. We just had to ration his meals and give him a little at a time to self-feed. We also told him to "chew and chew and chew!" While demonstrating.

Yeah! He chipmunk cheeks all the time and spits a bunch out. I always check his mouth when he's done eating bc there's frequently something stored there.

Two things I've noticed as we've been going through this process of learning to eat are that he's getting much better at chewing and therefore chipmunking a little less as time goes by. And he's also getting better at just spitting food ou when he takes too much instead of gagging and spitting.

I did also start offering slightly less on his tray. He seems to eat more if I give him 2-3 pieces of something at a time bc he's not overwhelmed/frustrated.

@wheres_c: Same! We just let him work through it. He still does it sometimes if it's something he's really excited about (like the first time he had M&Ms).

It's a learning process. B did this from 10-13 months.
We honestly kind of let him do it, while watching closely....we thought that was the best way for him to learn. He gee out of it.

I offered a little less at a time. That being said, we eat every single meal together so she still got/gets quite a bit at a time so I can eat too. She figured out fairly quickly not to choke herself if she wanted to actually eat anything lol

My LO does this too now. And it's like he's a stinking chipmunk and stores it in his cheeks forever :P. I've started just offering one bit at a time. It takes much longer, but it seems to work most of the time.

T just learned how to eat with his hands. It only took one time of getting a piece of food into his mouth and he never looked back. The problem is now is that he tries to stuff his mouth completely full without chewing much in between and coughs/chokes up a bit a lot. Is this a learning process or should I offer food slower? I just dump it all on his tray. We've done purees until now. He's 8.5 months.
