@MamaMoose: I agree. The armpit took so long to finish and LO would get upset. Rectal it seems like it is 10 seconds or less, really fast, and she doesnt even care.

We also use the Vicks Rectal Thermometer. Until they are six months rectal temps are really far and away the most accurate. I was terrified the first time we did it... But she didn't even notice. Your LO will probably handle the rectal better than having her arm pinned down.

I use the Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer. I really like that the probe is so short so it's impossible to stick it in too far. And it takes a super fast reading (usually less than 10 seconds), which is so important when I'm trying to keep a wiggly 8.5 month from crawling away, and it was even easier when he was little and couldn't move away.

ETA: It's never bothered him, and doesn't bother him now. He's just very mobile and doesn't like having to stay in one spot for more than a second.

This is the one we have. I always do a rectal reading and this has a little bump on the stick so you dont put it in too far. It is super quick if you do it up the bum. And you can set it for whichever way you take the temp ( bum, armpit, mouth) so it has the most accurate reading possible. I really like it.

What thermometer do you have!?

We have one that came in a first aid kit. But the one time we tried to use it, she was crying so loud we couldn't hear it beep when it was done. We just did it under her arms that time. I can't imagine how she would have reacted if we did rectal.

I just want to be prepared when she has her two month shots in three weeks.
