@Ms. RV: My first daughter never held a bottle herself, ever. And she was bottle fed from about 3 months on (I EPd). She didn't ever take to a sippy. Finally got into straw cups around 1.5 years old, but only from water. Also didn't really feed herself finger foods till after 1 year.

She's always been a bit slow on physical milestones, but still within the average range. We had a referral to a GI doctor and a Feeding clinic, and had gone to our first GI appoinment to find out why she had a feeding aversion....but the appointment for the feeding clinic was like 1.5 months after, and by then we didn't need it. Somehow around 13 months old, she just got it and started eating foods. So she skipped bottle holding, but learned how to eat food, so we never went to the feeding clinic.

DS is almost 11 months old and we are struggling to get him to feed himself or be able to finish a sippy cup or bottle without help holding (OT evaluation this Thursday). We had an epiphany when we realized he just gets too stiff when he eats. For instance he will hold a mum mum but he have a hard time guiding his hands to his mouth. Same with a bottle/sippy.. he can't seem to relax his shoulders enough to lift to get the very last bit. Any one else experience this??

ETA: He has no problem getting toys or hands into his mouth... just food.
