I usually start with Tylenol and of that's not bringing it down I alternate with Motrin.

Tylenol for teething, advil for everything else. Unless she is in a lot of pain (like right now she has a double ear infection) then we alternate every 3 hours so she can get more meds to cover the pain.

I usually prefer Ibuprofen since it lasts six hours vs four. For when she is really sick I will do what @Mrs D: said and alternate.

I generally don't give anything for just a fever, if she seems fine otherwise- then I just give a dose of Motrin at bedtime to make sure she can sleep. If she seems like she feels crummy and has a fever that's when I do Motrin.

At bedtime we start with Advil because it lasts longer. If he has a high fever we tag team, alternating every few hours like Mrs D said (he had a seizure once from a high fever so we're pretty nervous now). I also listened to a This American Life about how easy it is to overdose on Tylenol and how it's much harder to do on Advil, so I prefer to use that as much as possible.

Tylenol usually does nothing for my DD. It might bring it down a few points but nothing major so we primarily use mortin (Ibuprofen). We usually wait until it's over 101.

I will do Tylenol, but generally I always try peppermint essential oil first for fever!

We have even used the tylenol and ibuprofen tag team to break fevers....each one each 3 hours...that has usually worked for me for the bad fevers...

I've been dosing my 6.5 mo old with Tylenol for a fever and her fever returns after the meds wear off (its at 100.1). My doctor said I could try ibuprofen and wondered what people thought worked better? She'll have had Tylenol the maximum amount in 24 hours soon so I wanted to hold off on more of it but this means running to the store with a sick baby!

I dosed her when it was in the 99.5 range and after talking with the doctor I realized I had started meds earlier than needed. But today it's hung out near the "true fever" range of 100.4.
