Acetaminophen for under 6 months. Both for over 6 months. acetaminophen passes thru the liver and ibuprofen does not. Acet. Works quickly and lasts shorter. IBU. Works more slowly but lasts longer. We prefer IBU. For over 6 months but for stubborn fevers you can cycle the two for a better, stronger result.

Ibuprofen lasts longer per dose but can't be used under 6 months.

Other things to have on hand: gas drops or gripe water, nasal saline and the nose frida

We have both the Tylenol and Advil. I'm sure it isn't a huge issue either way, or they wouldn't make them both :) I think as long as you give the correct dose according to weight for either one then you're good!

I was told by our pharmacist that after 6 months, Tylenol is good for fevers under 102 F and Advil for anything over that. Other than that, there weren't really any preferences for one or the other.

DD is 7 months now and we've only ever given her Tylenol.

I think baby ibuprofen isn't recommended until 6 months old. After 6 months, ibuprofen would be good for inflammation. (The pediatric nurse suggested ibuprofen for some of the teething issues to help with the inflammation.)

I'd also have teething tabs on hand. Those are the late-night-run-to-the-store items!

Our CPR class suggested we keep (specifically) Baby Tylenol in each of our first aid kits. We were gifted some Infant Advil at our baby shower. I know Tylenol is acetaminophen vs. Advil is ibuprofen. Are you only supposed to give the acetaminophen to babies? I'm wondering if the baby Tylenol vs. baby Advil are used for different things?

Also - any other medicines you mamas have to recommend to have ready in our first aid kits so we don't have to find some 24 hr. pharmacy some night?
