We just went through this with our almost 6 month old! I was still getting up and nursing between 3-4am for fear that my supply would drop. Recently, he started doing the same thing as your LO. I took it as my cue that he was ready to night wean so we let him talk/play the first night it took maybe 5 mins? Ever since then he hasn't had any wake ups! It's been amazing to not get out of the bed in the middle of the night!

Thanks everyone! I guess it's unanimous. I just didn't know the protocol since he's never gotten up without crying before!

@gotkimchi: Hi--LO was 16 weeks from his due date when we sleep trained him. In retrospect he was sooo ready for it. I wanted to wait until he was six months, but he just wouldn't go down with rocking/nursing/singing/bouncing/etc. anymore. Our "routine" was beyond stressful, taking over 2 hours of crying a night and an hour for each nap. Turns out, he just needed some time to himself to go to sleep! The first night, I was prepared to let him cry 90 minutes with Ferber checks. I got through the 3 and 5 minute checks, and then he fell asleep during the 10 minute check after finding his thumb. He woke up twice that night well before his normal feeding time, and I just let him fuss a bit before he put himself back to sleep. The next night, he went down within 3 minutes of crying, fussed a bit a few hours later, and then woke up for his normal feeding. It's been smooth sailing ever since, but I think I just got lucky. Good luck!

Let him soothe himself back to sleep. He will cry if he is hungry!

Agreed! If he's hungry, he will let you know! If he's just giggling and babbling to himself or whatever, leave him be! :D

So we sleep trained our almost five month old last week. It was ridiculously easy and has helped tremendously. After one night of a 20 minute CIO session, he has put himself to sleep with almost zero tears for every nap and bedtime (as opposed to crying for two hours in my arms). Here's the thing though--because he is so young, I did not want to eliminate his MOTN feeding, which typically was happening around 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. So for the first few days, he'd wake up then, cry, and I'd feed him. Lately, he has just been waking up giggling and puts himself back to sleep after thirty minutes or so. Should I feed him then or should I just let him soothe himself back to sleep? I am just worried he is hungry but doesn't want to bother me with crying, although that certainly doesn't stop him from doing so during the day when he's hungry!
