We're moving into a new house so DH & I were just talking about this. Our new landlord even had these installed just for us!

We're going to get portable gates/fence so that DD can't go in kitchen/entryway when I'm not there. Are toilet locks necissary? I'm pretty sure I can manage keeping the door closed

Gates. Plug covers. Ties to secure furniture to walls. Latches for cabinets - I like the magnetic ones that you can deactivate when you want to. I removed all hazards and general things that she could reach but ought not. I made sure all medicine and chemical hazards are very high out of reach, or very securely contained. I also removed the two bottom shelves of books from all of my bookcases and filled them with toys and books for her.

In the kitchen all ground/low cabinets are either locked or full of non precious/breakable things that she's welcome to dig around in. I'm thinking I'll need an oven strap soon, too.

My child is in to everything eternally, and I like to let her roam around and have as much freedom as possible, so I am very highly baby proofed. It's nice - she has lots of accessible toys and books, and I don't have to watch her like crazy. We just hang out in our living room all day and she roams around and we hang out together or just in the same room. It works really well. Some people are able to just teach their children not to get into things, but that would just never work for my daughter. She is waaaaaaaaay too curious and contrary and willful. This was far easier.

what chopsuey said as well as securing furniture to the wall such as tv, bookcases or anything else that could topple over while being climbed on.

keeping small objects out of arms reach for a 2-3 ft tall little person.
