I think the worst was the time that the baby got horribly fussy in a grocery store and I wound up walking around with him nursing. We didn't have a carrier, just a stroller, and there was no place to sit down without going to the car.

But I am not especially shy about nursing. When I was pregnant, I thought I would be. But it's too inconvenient. I need to just nurse when/where necessary. And nursing with a cover is annoying.

I do try to employ the one up / one down tank top method as much as possible though.

Also, after going through labor and delivery, I don't really care if I flash a stranger while nursing.

Finally, yes it's a special moment but it happens at least 5-6 times per day. If I stopped to make every single nursing session precious, I would be a blubbering heap and would never get anything else done. Sometimes you have to be pragmatic about it and just feed the baby.

I feed E anywhere he is hungry. I suppose the most public would either be at the zoo or downtown fredericksburg. E hates the cover so I don't bother. Hey baby's gotta eat. :silly:

I bf wherever I need to. I don't use a cover but I do try to avoid nip slips. I don't try and find a seclude area or anything but I do try to keep myself from being overly exposed.

Charlotte was like, two weeks old and we were coming home from my parent house. She woke up and started screaming, so we pulled over at Walgreens so I could nurse her. It was like 9pm at night and I was nursing her in the parking lot, standing, because DH took Chloe inside to get a snack and I was still recovering from a section and couldn't get into the front passenger seat myself without help. We really didn't think that one through.

Now I nurse wherever, but have a cover!

I breastfed at the mall, but I did have a blanket as a cover since it was cold.

ETA: Also at a beach. I figured that nobody would care, especially since you see more boob in some of the bikinis out there.

And that's definitely me. With my first I was too shy to nurse in public. With my second I don't care!

I'll breastfeed anywhere, anytime and in front of anyone but I generally use an A&A blanket to cover. Especially since it helps LO eat and be less distracted. Kudos to that mama! You gotta do what you gotta do!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I remember going out with my friend and her sister and she was walking around a clothing store breastfeeding in a skimpy tanktop, lol.
TETO but for me, I wasn't comfortable feeding J anywhere I wouldn't eat myself. And no, I would't eat my meal walking around a clothing store, so I wouldn't feed J walking around one either.
But I had no problem feeding him at a restaurant, park bench, beach, mall food court, etc. And he hated the cover, so I didn't use one half the time.

That's great! I might not have been noticing so I don't really see BF in public, let alone a boob out (I feel like THAT I would see!) I'm too shy to let it all hang out in public and would prob always use a cover.

I have no qualms about BF in public, but I'm very conscious if not having my boobs out on display. I've BF everywhere though, museums, restaurants, stores, airplanes, busses, metros, park benches and the list goes on. A few weeks ago I was in Spain and babywearing and BF at the same time and an elderly woman wanted to see the baby (not realizing it was lunch time), I let her have a peak. Neither of us were embarrassed.

Also, since I live in a VERY BF friendly place, I've seen lots of random boobs just hanging out when the mom is trying to get a grasp on the babe or is burping or whatever.

Well, since I had BFing issues, I never got to the point of BFing in a store....but I went to BFing support groups until LO was 3 months old and for those 3 months EVERY single woman there (and we were a big group! 20-40 women every week) saw my boobs, multiple times. I didn't give a shiiit after a while. Since we had problems, there was no way I could do it with a cover, since I had to see to constantly reposition LO to get her latched on correctly, and the LC would come over and work with us too, pinching and pulling my boobs in all directions. haha.

haha, it's like that commercial where they show the first time mom at the table and she's all shy and then they show her BFing the second one and she's like "hey, eyes up here, dude".

I always see nursing moms in public if I'm out during the day on a weekday but they're usually discreet and not super obvious about it, so I only really know because i KNOW what i'm looking at. I've only known one person IRL to make a big deal about public BFing her kid....that was always awkward.

The other day I was checking out at Target. A family of four was behind me. The toddler was placed on the register conveyer belt by the dad. The baby was held by the mom in one of those seated carts. The family was cute and didn't use their indoor voices so every few moments I would turn around and see what they were doing.

During one of my turns I saw the mom breastfeeding. No cover. She was still parenting the toddler doling out instructions if he wanted to stay on the conveyer belt. Did I mention her breast was out? I saw the veins. I saw the breast contract as the baby suckled.

The cashier noticed her too and kept on ringing up customers. He and I both averted our eyes away. Yes, she was breastfeeding in public, but still there's a sense of intimacy between mother & babe and we wanted to respect their privacy. Well, as private as one can be squished between candy &rag mags and people on either end of you in a check out lane with bright lights overhead.

I'm all for feeding your baby wherever and whenever, but hadn't been near someone that close with an exposed breast to do so. So yes, I paused and really thought about what was going on. As I walked out of the store I thought about how much I wanted to be like that mom one day. She fed her baby and didn't skip a beat.

Where's the most public place you have fed your baby? Or have seen a baby nurse?
