I just didn't have a need for a sitter until ds was a bit older. I hired a girl I went to church with who came with great references from friends at the same church.

Places to find a sitter- Elementary/ middle school or highschool.student directory. Sitters usually advertise. If you have a local community college or university call their education department. Call a church even if you do not belong to one. Also communities usually.offer first aid classes to students, call the fire house or.civic center and see if they can recommend a teen or send an email.request to.past students. Go up to people you.think are doing.a good.job and ask if they babysit. I got two of my regular families b/c the parents saw me interact.with my.brother.
Another person saw me with 2-4 yr olds at a day camp.

First child had her first sitter at just over a year. We didn't do it again until she was almost two. Second child had a nanny starting at almost 5 months.

We have a wedding to attend in August and don't live near any relatives that can take care of LO for the evening. With no family nearby, I think it's time to start looking into babysitters so DH and I can leave for a few hours in the evening. LO is 11 months old and I'd like to start scheduling monthly dates for DH and I so a reliable sitter is a must.

For those of you that do not count on family to babysit, when did you start leaving LO with a sitter and how did you find your sitter?
