I would require it of a babysitter. I got mine renewed a month ago for our own LO.

I would require it of a babysitter. Anyone who works with kids should be certified so to me it'd be an indicator of their seriousness more than the likelihood they'd need to use it.

My DH and I took a CPR class with our nanny. We made it a requirement for her to take it before she started. Hopefully we never have to use it!

@PrincessBaby: Yes I was just reading the reviews and most of the parents have had it go off to find their baby not breathing. So scary. Thank you for the reccomendation, just bought it ;)

@anonysquire: I got mine on Amazon...It was about $100 but I figure that if it saved my LO's life (and I've read lots of stories of it doing so - even some of the reviews are from people who's baby stopped breathing OR had another child die of SIDS...I hit "Purchase" so dang fast after reading that!), then it's totally worth it. It also makes me sleep better/more comfortable. Like she usually wakes up at 530 or 6am, and the past couple of mornings she slept to almost 8am, and my first thought was wondering if she was okay, but I knew that the monitor would have went off if she had stopped breathing so I relaxed - she just needed her beauty rest!

We won't require babysitters, who will be family and close friends.

We are taking Infant CPR next weekend, so we are prepared.

@anonysquire: It's definitely good for him to know! I have a Snuza Halo monitor that my LO wears when she sleeps...It will vibrate if she stops breathing to try to jar her back into breathing (like if it were SIDS related) and then if she hasn't moved in the next 5 seconds, it starts going off to alert us that she's not breathing. I am paranoid, I know! But it doesn't do any good if I don't know what to do if that monitor goes off, so I actually think about infant CPR a lot and I definitely watch stuff online several times a week!

I required my nanny to be CPR certified, and recently taken a refresher course. If it would have been a long time since she did it, we would have sent her to a course, but she renewed hers in 2011.

I have youtubed Infant CPR incessantly, although I'm not certified. I finally found a class at a hospital in the next city that is to learn infant cpr, but is only $20 bc it's for people who don't need a CPR card, like parents. So we are taking that course the last Saturday in March.

I would require this for a long term nanny or care giver. But not for a babysitter coming over for a couple hours so we can have a date night.

Do you require your babysitter/nanny to be CPR certified? Is that a normal thing to ask of people? Are you CPR certified? I'm CPR certified for work but no one else in my close friends and family is.

Do you leave a CPR and heimlich cheat sheet for the babysitter?
