I would check your state's licensing regulations. If it's a steady, scheduled thing you may need a liscense (my state deems "in home child care" as caring for 2 or more unrelated children on a regular, patterned basis). I would not be so wary about the neighbor, but having her employees rely on you for drop-in care makes it seem more like you are providing a child care service and not just a favor to a friend. (Are they paying you? What hours can they use you? Etc)

That sounds more like a babysitter than something that you would need to be licensed for. But I would check with your state regulations. I would consider being CPR certified just because it can also protect you if something happened and you were sued.

hopefully i can articulate this well! it's still early and i'm working on my first cup of coffee.

a friend of mine, not terribly close but we have many similar interests and an identical parenting style, runs her business in her backyard. she has two kids of the same ages as my two (five and just under one). she's looking for a sitter a few times a week. her employees may also bring their children from time to time. while i feel like i would be happy to help, i am wondering if i am up for the job. what i want to ask is what would your expectations be of someone doing this for your children? i'm not licensed or certified to do this and that is what makes me nervous. what should my expectations be? what seems most important to bring up when we do sit down and talk about this? any and all advice is appreciated.
