@Mrs. Jacks: We also do drop-in activities.

We couldn't find a swimming class that worked with our schedules, so now we do drop-in lessons every Saturday morning. The local library often has weekend activities every other week, and we try to attend those as often as possible. We also do a lot of weekend activities whenever we can get out of town.

I sometimes rearrange my work schedule to accommodate some classes. Music Together is scheduled for late in the afternoon, so I often sneak away to take the kids. I also try to find things that I can do on a drop in basis in case I'm on service in a particular week. Or instead of a class we'll choose the zoo, aviary or the Natural History museum (which often have drop in activities)

A lot of classes here are during the day and if there are evening/weekend classes I heard they fill up REALLY quickly.

The class schedules never made since to me, until I realized that classes are basically scheduled whenever there aren't birthday parties... that's where all the money is, so that's the priority.

Well, I am a SAHM and the times are inconvenient for me too! Classes are always smack dab in the middle of nap or dinner times for us, so we don't do too much that's organized.

The only thing we've been able to do in the evenings is Kindermusik. They have a group that meets at 6:30pm. Other than that, everything at the Y is daytime and almost always weekday.

Yeah, I really want to go to story hour at the library, or the moms meetup group in my area, but TOO BAD, WOHMs. Our swim class is on a Sunday morning, but man, that 9:30 AM time sucks for DS. On a Sunday morning, that's meltdown-o'clock.

I'm home right now, but I STILL can't take advantage because they are ALL around 10 am, and he's napping then.

I finally found a gymboree-type class in the early evening, and our Y has swimming lessons on the weekend. But that's it.

I have found this too, it is very frustrating. I attend and evening LLL meeting because I work FT during the day. The moms in that mtg decided they wanted to schedule some play dates and picked a weekday morning - really, I attend the evening meeting because I work during the day come on people.

I have found a swimming class Saturday mornings -- that's all so far. :( I get out of work early-ish, like 4 p.m., but everything good seems to happen between 9 and 12 on weekdays. This didn't used to bother me, but now that my baby is almost 1.5, I feel like he could use some more structured activities outside the house.

@mrs. wagon: Where I live most activities seem to happen through private clubs, like tennis clubs, golf clubs, etc., and even those seem to have their classes at bad times for me (plus the $$$$$). I don't think we have an organization like what you're describing....

Yup, it really sucks that most of the good stuff is during the week!! I have managed to find a few things around us for the weekends but it is not a lot.

I feel your pain :( our local Gymboree has Saturday morning classes, and our local pool has Saturday hours for activities. Do you have a town organization for families?

I feel similarly to you. I live in a big city so I'm sure there are groups that meet on evenings and weekends but finding them seems to be tough. I also find the same with church groups (at least our church) that the mom groups all meet during weekdays, which always keeps me from attending. Our other hurdle for the time being is that my son goes to sleep at 6:30 and there isn't any time between picking him up from daycare and getting him fed and in bed to do anything outside the house so I am hoping as he gets older and can take a little later bedtime that we'll get to find activities we can do with others.

I am sorry this is just a gripe session but it is SO frustrating that almost all baby classes/activities take place during the day!! Just because I am a working mom doesn't mean I don't want to do activities with my babe!! Have other working moms found this to be the case? Have you found evening/weekend classes like swimming, gymboree, mommy and me?
