I'd get her a k'tan or solly wrap if you want her to be able to wear the baby asap. If she can wait a few months, I'd maybe get her the Ergo; it's the most basic, fool proof that doesn't break the bank. Wrapping and even ring slings will have a learning curve, so I'm not sure if she's up for it or not! I mean, baby wearing in general def as a learning curve.

I'm no expert, but most non-baby wearers or very casual baby wearers I know seem to prefer a soft structured carrier like an ergo to a sling or wrap- much easier to learn right away. The downside is they aren't as good for the first few months- I used a moby until C was about 3 months and felt more comfortable in our beco Gemini. Dh only ever used the beco.

@beloved: Ah, gotcha! For infants, I liked a stretchy wrap (I used Moby). You're limited in carries (no back carrying, for instance), but I liked the security of the tight stretchy wrap instead of working a woven wrap to get it really tight on a tiny new babe. Moby is pretty cost effective compared to many woven wraps, too.

@twodoghouse: Sorry - I guess I was a little vague in the post. My son is almost 3 - I would like to get her the wrap for the new baby.. Not my LO :)

I would suggest a ring sling vs a wrap for a beginner (less of a learning curve). Or like @twodoghouse suggested, a structured carrier.

How old is your son? Has he ever been worn before? I probably would not go with a wrap, unless your mom specifically has expressed interest in learning to use one. It was a much steeper learning curve than using a SSC which involved watching a ton of YouTube videos and practicing a ton. If your son has never been worn before he may not be especially tolerant of the learning process. Also, when you have two kids you're looking after it's infinitely easier to throw one up in a SSC quickly to tend to the other baby unless you get really good and quick with the wrap. I would probably go with an Ergo or Tula with infant insert if you think she'll be wearing the new baby too.

Hi Ladies!

I am thinking of gifting my mom a wrap for Christmas. She is the primary caregiver for our son and my sister is going to have a baby early next year. She will take care of the new baby a lot too so I thought being able to wear him some would be helpful since she will have both at the same time every now and then.

I didn't wear my first LO so I am in the dark. What would you recommend. Something super easy for a newbie to use would be great. (to clarify - the sling/wrap would be intended for my sister's baby - not my son!)

I'm super grateful for my mama so anything I can do to make her time with LO and the new one easier is something I want to do!

Thanks in advance for your insight!
