@navy_mommy--thanks! i figured that out after a long trip to Lowes, ha. It was far more comfortable yesterday at a festival when i had it sitting on my shoulder. Made a BIG difference!

@pastemoo, heartsonastring, grizz: thanks :)

They are addicting. I want more (all the pretties!) but I can't justify the cost of more Girasols.

@navy_mommy, when you said "wear all the babies", i thought of this: :P

I have both but I am a wrap mama. Unless I'm carrying for less than 5 minutes I prefer to wrap. I find them more comfortable, more pretty, and more time consuming to tie--by a minute or 2.

@Navy_Mommy: I think they're both addictive. :D

A Girasol was my first woven wrap, but the twill weave didn't work for us so I sold it. Then I bought the same colorway (amitola cream weft) in diamond weave and kept that for a while till I bought vice versa diamond weave cream weft and since they were so similar I sold amitola. I still have vice versa!

(first pic is our first back carry, second is vice versa)

My (and LO's) preference is for an adjustable HotSling. I don't know what it would be classified as, as it doesn't have a ring, but I don't believe it's a woven wrap (?). There are two adjustable straps built into the wrap, so you can loosen and tighten as you need. As baby grows, you just adjust to her size, and also adjust as your hold changes.

I've tried a ton of wraps (yes to what @Navy_Mommy said about them being addictive!!) and this is what we like best.

My LO is almost 15 months and about 21 pounds and I recently wore her for about 7 hours at Disneyland and it could not have been more comfortable. No back pain, no leg/foot pain - nothing. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

@Navy_Mommy: Awesome, thanks! I was hoping you would chime in. I've read some of your blog posts and I watched your RS tutorials...super helpful!

I have a feeling I might end up with both! I'll probably start with an RS though...maybe....still can't decide! I'll wait until after the next babywearing meeting where I can, hopefully, get a better feel for both.

With regard to woven wraps, should I get a larger size if I'm tall and large-chested? I've read that size 6 should fit most, but I wonder if height/bustiness means I should go with a size 7?

Also a pro of woven wraps is they pretty much maintain their value if you take care of them so you can sell them when you're done with it. If you get a wrap conversion ring sling it will maintain it's value as well, but a "plain fabric" sling won't as much.

I DO have a ring sling basics post on my blog already, a breakdown of different carriers, a babywearing safety post, and a few wrap tutorials. They have the tag "wear all the babies!" lol. Hopefully I'll finish the woven wrap post soon!

Now pros of a ring sling... quick - they're easier to LEARN to use and once you're used to it it's quick to get baby in. They're super easy to breastfeed in.

Cons...as your baby gets bigger, it's harder to carry them infor long periods of time. If you get a wrap conversion it's more supportive, but still not as supportive as an actual wrap. You can't wear them as many ways - in my opinion it's limited to front and hip carries, you CAN wear them on your back but I think it's super uncomfortable.

We have a ring sling (my mom made it!!) and M loves it! It's pretty user friendly. I keep it in the car. It doesn't take a lot of fiddling. I don't know anything about the woven wraps, are they similar to the moby? I hate that thing.

I really need to finish up my all things woven wrap blog post, lol.

Okay, so, quick pros of woven wrap... versatility - you can wear them ANY way. In one afternoon you can wear a baby on your hip for some snuggles, a high back carry so baby can see around, a cradle carry to breastfeed, and a low back carry or front carry for a nap. All in the same wrap. Longevity - you can use one wrap from birth to college, lol. Aesthetics - I think wraps are beautiful, lol.

Cons... learning curve - they can be intimidating and there is a definite learning curve. Cost - they TEND to be more expensive (there are more budget friendly wraps available or you could always DIY a wrap with linen or osnaburg... more on that on my blog). And, they tend to be "addictive." Very few people are actually happy with just one wrap. And you WILL be stopped by strangers asking you questions about it. If you're just trying to get through the grocery store it can be obnoxious.
