Fleece or other very lightweight sweater for babe, put in carrier, wear my coat on top of carrier. Hat on babe, sometimes mittens.

We use an Ergo so it takes almost no time to pop her in. If it's not really windy, I do it in the parking lot. If it is, I'll haul her inside in the infant seat and then dump it in a shooing cart while we are inside.

I've not done it in the cold (California dweller here) but if it's raining I'll just grab my DD and run inside with her under my coat. And then put her in the carrier once we are inside the store.

@littlebug: I wore him in front and put my maternity coat around us both. I'd park and buckle the waist--or do a potable wrap carry at home and drive like that.... and then pop him in real quick, put my coat over us, and go.

@littlebug: Hahaha  Though if you have 2 carseats on each side, you probably can't go in and sit down... If it's something like a k'tan, I'd just put in on before driving so it's "ready", and pop her in real quick... Ugh, babywearing during the winter just sucks! And I'm too cheap to invest in a babywearing coat.

@Pumuckl: @hilsy85: It would be a ktan or a ring sling, so (in theory) easily poppable.

@snowjewelz: Wear her IN the car?! I don't think I'd feel comfortable doing that.

I would take off my jacket to put on my carrier (I used an Ergo with infant insert). Then I would take LO out of his car seat and put him inside the carrier. Usually I dressed him in a fleece one piece pajama to stay warm. Afterwards I wore my jacket and covered him up. I wore the same jacket from my maternity months, and it helped keep us both warm.

Since she's so little, I think you can def wear her in the car, NOT over your coat, then you put on your coat and kinda wrap it around her running into the store!

Oh and I never put the carrier over my coat if we are going inside because then I get over heated and can't take anything off. So I put the carrier over a thin layer and add open layers on top (coat, cardigan, zip up fleece). I only put the carrier over my coat when I did a back carry when she got older.

I haven't done it on any bitterly cold days yet, but on regular cold winter days, I put my wrap on before we leave, wear a loose fleece zip up vest that zips over both of us plus my coat. Dress baby in fleece pjs or something warmer but not that warm if we are going inside. When we get there I put her in the carrier right outside the car (exposing us both to the cold for a few minutes) then zip the fleece vest up over her. Reverse when we are done. My winter coats won't zip over her. On a bitter cold day if I didn't have the toddler with me, I'd wrap a blanket around her and run into the store then put her in, but I can't handle the toddler in the parking lot plus holding the baby and blanket.

I used to take my coat, or big open sweater off, put on lo, and then wrap her up in the coat/sweater. I always put her in cozy clothes and a hat.

@littlebug: I usually bring DD2 into the store first then take my coat off and wear her. WHen going for walks I put a thick hooded sweatshirt on her, put her in the carrier. My biggest coat, over the carrier, and wrap as much of my coat over her as well.

what carrier are you using? If it's a moby or similar, I would just wrap it before you leave the house, and pop DD in it when you get to your destination, under your jacket. You can also wear a larger hooded sweatshirt over and zip that over her.

@littlebug: Sorry about the tiredness! :( Are you using a SSC or a wrap? If I use the Tula I usually just put it on, put DD in it (if I know beforehand that I'll carry her and it is cold, I'll have her in her fleece bunting in the carseat.) and then just close it and put my jacket over on top.

I wore D but didn't get started till he was older and the weather was warmer. I want to start wearing A now to go shopping and stuff, but I'm not sure how to do this in cold weather. Do I put her in the carrier at the car, exposing her (and me) to the cold for a bit and then just wrap my jacket or a blanket around her? Do I carry her in to the store and then put her in to the carrier? Do I put her over my coat, take my coat off first, not wear a coat at all? This probably shouldn't be this complicated, but I'm sleep-deprived and my brain is functioning at like 1/3 its normal capacity.
