@spaniellove: yea Id be hesitant as well. I wish I lived closer, I only have 5 carriers you could try out :silly: do you have a local Babywearing group? My local one is intimidating but it does give you some idea.

@spaniellove: You might actually like a tie waist mei tai, wrap conversion ones can be pricey, but they are absolutely worth it. If you're on facebook, see if there is a local babywearing group there too, someone may have one you could try on-- we don't have a large group here but we do have a variety of preferences so there is just about something for everyone.

doing carries with shorter wraps helps keep you from having your tails drag- especially something like a Kangaroo Carry, which for most people only requires a size 3 or 4 wrap.

My LO is about 17 lbs I think and I wear her in a sling almost every day with no pain/issues at all. As long as I keep the ring a little lower on my chest and pull the gathered bits over my shoulder she is very comfy.

And I feel like it is very easy to put on/off. I can put her in and get her adjusted while walking into a store. But yea, coats are a PITA. I pull her out of the car seat and just tuck her into my coat to run into the store if it is cold, then when I get in I lose the coat and put her in the sling.

ETA: I also have a woven wrap and I don't think it is hard (to do the basic carries, once you get the hang of it), but I do think its a pain in public. I still haven't figured out how to wrap in public without dragging my tails everywhere (which grosses me out) unless I'm doing a poppable carry. And I haven't found a poppable carry I like better than just putting LO into my sling.

@Mrs. Pink: I guess it always felt so bulky on me and so many buckles and adjusting and the waistband never fit flat...part of it digs in. Apparently I just missed the monthly babywearing class at our local natural/CD boutique tonight!! Darn it!

How much does your son weigh? We loved the ring sling up to 15lbs but now he's too big. I've also used a woven wrap and tula and ergo. If you think the tula is hard to put on a woven will be very difficult so I don't really have any other suggestions.

I got my ring sling from sleeping baby productions.

what did you find you didn't like about the Tula?

I personally find it easier to wrap using a woven, which I *never* thought I'd enjoy because it looked so complicated... but once you get the hang of it it's easy <3

If you have a local babywearing international chapter nearby, often times they have a variety of carriers you can try and check out to, rather then buying different ones and then having to get rid if they don't work out.

I never really liked my ring sling all that much. I'm not sure if it's because of the material and it would be better if I'd gotten a wrap conversion one, or if it's the style I don't like. DS always feels ridiculously heavy and uncomfortable in it.

I really like my mei tai (wrap conversion one and regular one) and I'm kind of meh about my Beco Soleil. I find buckle carriers not super comfortable. But they are definitely easier to put on.

I have no problem putting my Beco gemini on my front. It has a buckle that goes between your shoulder blades that I just leave buckled, so it's really easy.

Back carry, on the other hand, is more difficult, especially with a winter coat. But I comfortably wore c on my front well past a year.
