i think my boba says 20 lbs for the back? she's at 16.5 lbs now, so i would probably try it around 9 months? but that still faces her body into mine and there is no option for the front facing out.

I had no idea about the hip stress. I've seen moms carry like this before so I thought it was fine. Thanks for the heads up.

I switched both kids in a front facing carry in my Moby when they went on carrier strikes at about 3-4 months. In the Ergo I switched DS to a back carry at about 6/7 months, when he was 15 pounds and too heavy to front carry anymore.

I started wearing D FFO in my Beco Gemini around 3.5 months, when he could solidly hold his head up on his own. The Gemini is designed so that you can make the base of the carrier narrow, so the baby is in a "seated" position, which is ergonomically safer than other carriers. When he gets tired or overstimulated, I turn him around so he can snuggle in and go to sleep.

LO is 4 months old and I wear her in the Ergo on my back around the house sometimes. Easier to do laundry that way! I probably won't do it away from home for a few more months unless I have someone to assist me with getting her off and on!

Never plan to face out...we bought a ring sling so we can do hip carries starting around 8 months and he can face out pretty well that way!

Never :( its not good for their little hips and can be very over stimulating. If he's wanting to look around then try a back carry... That way he can still burrow his head if it gets to be too much or if he's sleepy :)

Even though my carrier (Beco Gemini) can be used forward facing, I haven't (LO is 10 months). She seems quite content to face in. :)

We started back carries at about 7 months. We front face out rarely since it's not ergonomically ideal.

There are some people who wear their newborns on their backs safely, but I don't think I could ever do that. Whenever YOU'RE comfortable starting back carries is a good time to start :-)

Front facing out? Never, lol. It puts unnecessary pressure on developing hip joints and messes with baby AND the wearer's lower back.

Front facing on your back? I started at three months when I was confident W was strong enough to be up there and I could "communicate" with him to some degree.

I have a backpack style carrier that can be worn on the front or back. I've always used it on my front with the baby facing me. When do I switch him to face out?
