@spaniellove: he wants to wait a month to test my progesterone again, since it waa low last time. They want an idea of my non-pregnant numbers to see what we are working with. I understand, but I'm impatient to try again. I don't like being in between.

@LovelyPlum: I'm glad to hear your bloodwork so far is looking good! Is there a reason you aren't supposed to try while you do the rest of your bloodwork?

I promised I would update, so here goes: my blood work came back clear today, so my thyroid is not a problem. I'm glad to hear that, means it is one less thing that we are dealing with. The other news is that they want to do more blood work next cycle, so we probably won't get to try again until late July. I know it is all worth it, but I couldn't help but feel sad that we wouldn't get to use our HSG cycle. Sigh...hurry up and wait is *not* my strong suit.

@lovelyplum, my pregnancy wasn't high risk, but I did get extra monitoring and saw a maternal fetal specialist for unrelated reasons.

I had an HSG to rule out any anatomical problems. They flushed dye through me, I cramped a little, and that was it

The thing about bad luck is that it eventually turns around :) hang in there!!

*Sorry in advance for the novel.*

So I had my appointment this morning, and all in all, I think it went pretty well. I've been freaking out about going, which is super unusual for me. I never get weirded out about going to the doctor's, but I had a nightmare about it two days ago, and I was shaking all morning. I couldn't eat this morning, either. So not like me, and so not fun.

I'm not 100% sure what I was expecting, but I do feel a little better. The bad news is that I got no real answers today, but the good news is that he does want to look into what's going on. I don't have to transfer over to an RE, either, which I was afraid of (not that they're bad, but it takes me forever to get comfortable with a new doctor, and I wasn't sure I wanted to go there yet). They also coded me as "repeat miscarriage due to luteal phase defect," which is a new(ish) diagnosis-we had suspected one for a while. So they are taking this seriously without my really having to push. I'm very grateful for that, because I was a hot, shaking mess in there. In other good news, I also got a script for Zoloft, because I've found that the miscarriages are triggering some old depression demons (hence the shaking mess).

I got a slew of blood work today (Prolactin, more betas to make sure everything passed, TSH levels, and CBC levels), and they want to wait a cycle before checking my progesterone level again. (On further reflection, I'm not sure they did the clotting disorder-I'll have to ask next time I go in.) I figured the blood work was coming, and even though I'm not a big fan of it, I've sorta come to accept it. But I had to laugh a little when I walked down the hall to the lab (in a different office), and the tech said, "you're back again?!" Yep. Back again. For the 9th time in the last 4 weeks. I know.

Now for the part I wasn't expecting: my doctor wants to do an HSG, too. Thanks to HB, I now know what this is, but it still caught me a little off-guard. I'll have it in a couple of weeks, after my next period, and fortunately, he can do it in the hospital connected to the practice (again with the no new doctors thing). But I'd be lying if I didn't say I was freaked out. I need to do my research before we get there. Have any of you had this? What was your experience like? If it would be easier, maybe I'll bump an old thread-I know there's some out there.

Thanks ladies!!

@corilyns: @regberadaisy: thank you ladies. That means a lot.

@T.H.O.U.: thanks lady. I don't know why, but I am nervous as heck for tomorrow. I mean, there's no reason why I should be, but I am. I even had a nightmare about it last night. Maybe it's the unknown, I don't know. But I'm very glad that DH is coming with me!

@Dr. Pepper: thank you so much. It is so reassuring to hear your story and know that this can move in a positive direction. Thanks also for the information re: high risk. I think I had read that some offices do and some don't. I really don't care either way; I just want to be able to be monitored more closely at the beginning. I had an u/s at 6 weeks last week, and that's where we learned that the baby had not grown. There was no heartbeat; there was nothing at all to see, actually. My hgc numbers had been low from 2 weeks before, and when they tested again, they had dropped to 22. For as much as I hate testing, I know that I'm going to want it next time to make sure things are starting off well. I just want to know that the little bean can grow!

Thanks again for the advice and support. I'll update after my appointment tomorrow.

@LovelyPlum: I agree that our journeys are so similar. My heart broke all over again reading your story because it reminded me of last summer so much. They did not consider me high risk this pregnancy. We had the ultrasounds at 5 weeks and again at 6 weeks. Once we saw a heartbeat and that baby was growing at a proper rate they were satisfied that everything was going normally this time. The chance of miscarriage is much much lower after seeing a heartbeat. Granted, it can still happen, but at least I had that reassurance that baby had grown a weeks growth in a weeks time and that baby had a heartbeat. It helped so much. I was still holding my breath every appointment until I heard the heartbeat though until I could feel baby move.

I've been so lucky this pregnancy that everything has gone completely by the books normal (except for a short spout of hives that we have no clue where they came from). I hope you will have luck your third try around and that things will go smoothly for you as well. Even though the road to get here was hard, it has been worth it. Stay strong.

First of all, can I just say how amazing everyone is on here?! I was so nervous to post this for whatever irrational reason. Thanks for showing me I made the right decision :) It makes me sad that so many people have had these kinds of heartbreaking losses, but as a newbie to most of this, I am so grateful for your experiences. Thank you so much for sharing.

@.twist.: @swedishfish: @nana87: @amandalynn: @T-Mom: @Mrs. Twine: thank you ladies for your love.

@spaniellove: thanks for chiming in. Is it weird that I thought of you? I know that you can't always find an answer, but I'm glad to know that should we decide to go the testing route, there have been others before us who have done it as well.

@hellobeeboston: that is encouraging, thanks! I love hearing stories like that (well, not that anyone has to go through this, but the happy outcome)-it helps me to remember that there are still good things possible.

@swurlygurl: oh my goodness, I am so sorry. That was my absolute worst fear, and there was about an hour on Thursday where they thought this one might have been ectopic, too. It wasn't, but we were preparing ourselves for it. I'm so glad to hear that you were able to get pregnant with an easy pregnancy again. Do you mind if I ask-were you considered high risk with that one?

@lovelyseeker: thanks for sharing. I'm sorry you had to go through that, too. I know there's a good chance that they're unrelated, but that freaks me out a little too, because it leaves open the possibility of it happening again for a fluke reason. On the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of tests. :/ I was on the progesterone supplements this time, so I'm sure I'll be back on next time.

@fert: Thanks for the suggestion :) I know chromosomal abnormalities can't be helped...it's just hard for this type-A girl to accept that things are out of her control sometimes. I'm sorry for your loss, too.

@Jennimac: I remember you saying (writing?) that about the cord. I was on progesterone for this one, since my numbers were low, but they didn't put me on it until I was 4 weeks, maybe? Who knows, maybe at that point it was too late. But I want to get them checked again. And thanks for keeping me positive :)

@Dr. Pepper: oh my gosh, thank you so much for sharing-that sounds exactly like us! These two miscarriages were on our first two cycles trying. My first was at 4w, and the second at 6. I don't want to wait too long to try again, but I'm pretty sure we'll wait a month this time. If nothing else, I'm hoping to get an ultrasound early next time. I think that would help a lot. I'm glad that your pregnancy is healthy this time around. ETA: can I ask, were you considered high risk because of last time?

@blackbird: I remember seeing that you just had a baby, but I didn't realize about your losses. Thank you so much for sharing. This whole "luck of the draw" thing has me antsy, but I just keep reminding myself that it's ultimately out of our control, and that people do go on to have healthy babies. Thanks for reminding me again :) ETA: can I also ask you, was your pregnancy considered high risk? I'm curious as to what other doctors do.

OK, sorry for the novel. But really, thank you all so much.

I had two in a row and had a barrage of blood tests and chromosomal and karyotype testing done. The doc said that 50% of the time, there's no reason, but that there is enough research to show that waiting until a third m/c isn't necessary. There could just be something in me or DH that makes us more likely to produce babies with faulty chromosomes, too. I didn't have tissue from either of my miscarriages in order to get testing done, but the blood panel DID show MTHFR for me (a blood clotting disorder), so i was put on progesterone (which is standard for recurrent loss, anyways, because it can't hurt, and she suspected i had 'luteal phase defect' aka low progesterone) and a baby aspirin. I also got ultrasounds every other week, which I greatly appreciated. And i had a healthy baby girl about 2 months ago :)

And, sometimes, nothing is ultimately wrong, but you got shafted with some really super shitty bad luck.

Hang in there!!

I am so sorry you are going through this. My husband and I went through this last summer as well. We conceived (our first try) in May 2012 and miscarried at just over 5 weeks on June 5th. We got pregnant right away again in June and then miscarried on July 21st at almost 7 weeks. It was heartbreaking. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with all this too.

My doctor didn't want to do any extra follow up after the second one, but I asked for more testing. He did lots of testing including the tests for clotting disorders, but everything came back normal. It was mostly for my own reassurance.

We waited a month and then tried again. We got pregnant again our third month trying and are now due tomorrow! My doctor did an early ultrasound at 5 weeks (which didn't show anything other than a sac) and then again at 6 weeks (which showed a heartbeat!!) with this third pregnancy. Everything has gone smoothly this time around.

I hope your doctor can give you some reassurance and you can come to a plan that will make you feel confident about trying again. Knowing that my blood work was normal and that we would have early ultrasounds (normally my hospital only does ultrasounds at 20 weeks) really helped make me more comfortable trying again.

@LovelyPlum: hugs and hang in there. My doctor didn't do any testing for us, but after we delivered he noted that cord didn't look right. We opted not to have additional testing done. We had to wait two cycles before we could try again. My doctor had me start taking a baby aspirin. When we got pregnant again, I called my doctor the day we found out and he put me on progesterone for the first trimester. I would get your progesterone levels tested and see what else your doctor recommends. Hang in there. You are going to get your sticky baby!

Hugs and lots of hope for the future! I had a miscarriage last October. Like the Bees, we were able to find out that it was due to a trisomy (18 in our case). #1 cause of miscarriage because when cells divide, sometimes the DNA isn't split evenly between the cells. And there's not too much one can do to keep that from happening (other than staying away from nuclear sites, I guess).

A friend is also TTC and she and her DH found that he's got a lot of mutant sperm. She's had two "pregnancies" that had she not been testing would have seemed like a late AF (quotation marks because not doctor confirmed). Chances are, because of the sperm, there were chromosomal issues. So make sure the swimmers are okay if you haven't already.

I also had low progesterone (for current pregnancy) and was put on supplements. Though from a cursory review of scientific research, supplementary progesterone has been shown to be helpful only to women who have low progesterone early in pregnancy because they have a short luteal phase (time between ovulation and usual period is <10-12 days). If your luteal phase is short, you should be on progesterone ASAP when BFP.

When I miscarried, what got me through the first couple of weeks was the fact that we were one step closer to having a baby than many others. Getting pregnant is tough. You don't have that problem. Now it's on to the next step: keeping preggerz. Though it may be dark right now, the future is bright.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I also experienced two miscarriages though there were several months between mine. I am definitely no expert but I can tell you the little bit I know based on my own experience. According to my doctor, it is not technically considered repeated miscarriage unless you have three in a row. Even with two, statistically there is a good chance they were caused by unrelated events. Even so, my doctor did several standard tests after my second but did not find a problem. (I don't remember what all the specific tests were but several were related to blood clotting).

Two years later I became pregnant a third time. I called my doctor as soon as I found out and he put me on progesterone supplements immediately just in case it might make a difference. I went on to have a healthy baby that pregnancy - maybe because of progesterone, maybe it would have happened anyway, who knows.

In any case, I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

I'm so sorry, I know how sad you must be :'(

I had an early miscarriage (5 weeks), then got pregnant again the following month and had an ectopic pregnancy. We had to end that at 8 weeks. It took me 6 more months to get pregnant after that, but it was an amazingly easy and perfect pregnancy.

I'm so sorry to hear this.... my best friend had two miscarriages in a row similar to you. they did testing and found nothing wrong.... her third pregnancy resulted in a healthy baby boy - and then she surprisingly got pregnant again when he was 5 months old with identical twins & carried them to 38 weeks when they induced her!

so... it was kind of just a sad fluke i guess. but she's gone on to have very healthy pregnancies & babies.... hope this story helps to encourage you. it was a sad time when she was going through it to be sure. she took her time to be sad and then looked to the future.

Like @TheSwissWifeStyle, DH and I had karyotyping and RPL (clotting disorder) testing done. I also had my thyroid levels tested and it's the only thing that's been abnormal so far.

Again I am terribly sorry you're going through this. My dr mentioned that with repeat m/c sometimes there just isn't a reason on our end and even if a woman has had three m/c there's a greater than 50% chance that she will carry her next pregnancy to term.
