guys, thank you so much for all your suggestions & input. i was off the bee laid up in bed from like 6pm on last night. i had trouble sleeping because i couldn't lie in my normal positions comfortably but i woke up this morning feeling much better. still feeling the pull a bit and definitely not LOVING it but it's much better. i don't feel like i need to go get a prescription or anything so i'm gonna tough it out and get a prenatal massage on saturday!

thanks again

@loki: I have thrown my back out multiple times and it's awful! And that was when I wasn't pregnant and could take/do whatever I wanted.

I would recommend ice over heat- my pt said it helps more with the swelling, though if heat feels good that's fine too (not sure about the heating pad and preg though). For me the most comfortable position is to lay on my back on the floor with my legs ups, calves resting on the seat of the couch, thighs at 90 degrees, with a soft ice pack under my back.

Good luck- I hope you feel better. And I know how frustrating it is throwing it out doing something so dumb- I've thrown my upper back out toweling drying my hair- twice!

Ask your chiropractor about an e-stim machine (also called a TENS unit) that you can use at home, provided it's safe in pregnancy although I can't see why it wouldn't be. Alternating between ice and heat can help too. I have chronic back pain so my TENS unit and heating pad are my best friends.

Omg I feel your pain... literally. I did something to my back on the weekend and I was in serious pain from spasms. Just went to my chiro and he made it vanish. I found lying on a heating pad to help, but I'm not pregnant. I hope you get some relief!

I had back pain during my last pregnancy and I saw a chiropractor, which really helped. I was told by the chiro to ice and not use a heating pad while pregnant. I don't remember why, but try ice.

sounds like your back may be in spasm.. It's happened to me several times in the past few years, both pregnant and not. Go to the doctor!! They can give you pain meds that are safe for baby... It can be excruciating!!

@tororojo: oh thanks for the recos! My Dr isn't in tonightso I'll have to wait until tomorrow but your Dr's recos seem reasonable. I haven't taken Tylenol just because I never seem to have luck with it for headaches or anything but it's probably worth a shot. Thank you!

You could try a heating pad, just don't leave it on forever...my doc says 10 mins at a time is fine. Have you taken any tylenol? If the pain is killing you, I'd go for it...you can do 1000 mg every 6 hrs. (Again, this is approved by my doc but you might want to check with yours!)

Well I just turned 30 and this morning when bending down to fix my boot, i pulled a muscle or something in my back. I am in BRUTAL pain... on top of that i have a horrible cough and every time i cough, it is excruciating. I am struggling to walk/move and the only thing that feels remotely good is if i put a bit of pressure on the area (middle lower left). I'm 13 weeks pregnant so all the usual remedies seem to not be safe (icy hot was gonna be my go to until i looked it up!)
I have booked myself in for a prenatal massage this weekend but i am going to have to get through tonight-friday first.

Any recommendations????
