Thank you all for your thoughtful advice!! Ive seen a chiropractor in the past and it's only provided temporary relief. Will see my doctor and see who he refers me to for the pain. It seems to come and go these days.

I went to the gym to stretch and work it out and I feel a lot better right now.

I was just talking to DH at dinner about my back! I was on the couch the other night and had pain just radiating down my leg behind my knee. It was worse when I was pregnant! I bought a pair of birks today to see if that helps instead of my junky summer flip flops. I don't even know what type of dr to see for the pain!

Chiropractic visits, pillows for support, strengthening exercises and stretches are how I cope. I put a pillow under my knees to help for low back.

Can you see a Dr to find out why it's hurting? I had back pain on and off for years and I thought I was doing everything right to strengthen it but turns out I wasnt. After I had numbness and nerve pain start to shoot down my leg, I got an Mri which showed a badly herniated disc. 3 epidural shots and a number of neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon opinions later, I ended up having back surgery. Hopefully your back pain isn't that serious but please get it checked out.

Otherwise, ice and advil to reduce any swelling. Also look up exercises to strengthen your transverse abdominal muscles. Those are the deep core muscles that surround your spine. You should tighten those before doing anything that may require you to engage your back.
Sorry for the novel.

@mrsjyw: My parents have been pushing me to do this, and I'm finally giving in- they stretch whenever they brush their teeth, and it's totally eliminated my dad's lower back problems. They put one foot up on the counter and stretch for 30 seconds each side, twice per side, which is easy to time if you have a Sonicare. It has certainly helped me feel better!

It depends on why it is hurting. If you can pinpoint the cause, that may help. I have had back problems since 2009. Found out I have bulged discs, degenerative disc disease. Chiros didn't help. Went to a physical therapist last year and it did wonders for my back! Lots of special stretches. But generally, advil or motrin, ice and special back stretches, as well as a good matress, pillow and sleeping with a pillow between my knees helps!

@mrsjyw: I like ice- get a flexible ice pack and lay on it. I've never had luck with a chiro but I think I just saw the wrong one.

I would go to the chiropractor too! My chiropractor got me my own TENS unit and it helps to use that at home. Icing helps sometimes or a heating pad works other times. Try curling up into a ball to stretch out your back? Feel better!

@blackbird: I have no idea!! I didn't do anything strenuous or out of the norm. Went swimming and did cardio at the gym Friday. I lifted a couple of boxes yesterday (not heavy)?

DH and I have really rough backs!

What about heat or ice?

I have to constantly think about every move I make and purposefully engage my abs. I also find birkenstocks or other proper footwear to help a lot! I hope you feel better!

Oh, I feel for you. I've dealt with back pain for a long time. There are lots of options to help. I would highly suggest a good chiropractor. They can give you the the best treatment plan and ideas for stretches to do that can help. If your insurance covers it massage therapy can do wonders. I get it when I can for minor flair ups and my body responds well to it.Yoga can do wonders to help you back, but other then that my heating pad is my best friend.

I couldn't fall asleep last night because my lower back started throbbing.

I had to tiger balm it like my grandma just to get some ZZZs last night.

I'm sitting in my ergonomic chair at work, but it's still hurting!

Aside from Motrin, is there anything else I can be doing?
