A tip for side lying - lay the baby down in the middle of the bed (or about a foot or so from you) and lay down yourself. get comfortable and then bring baby to you.

I turn a memory foam pillow up so I can lean my head back. It's firmer than a regular pillow. For side lying I actually like the opposite- a super squishy pillow behind and almost tucked under my back. But I have rarely done side lying in the middle of the night because I feel like it's harder to move the baby back into the crib then. It's easier for me to be upright already for the transfer.

And yes to the Brest friend! So so much easier than pushing pillows under your arms and baby. I used it until my first stopped nursing at a year and a half!

I have an Arlee Oversized Bedside Lounger. It's ridiculously overpriced online so I guess it's discontinued or something? Mine was only $40-ish. I liked it bc it had a tall back and I'm tall. We use it now to read books to the kids.

I had a body pillow from my pregnancy that we put behind our regular pillows. I think the combo of the body pillow and two regular pillows was ok for me.

@snowjewelz: @Mamaof2: I nursed lo1 until she was 22 months, and towards the end sometimes was able to side-lay, but that was because she was able to move herself towards me. But still it was never comfy, I always felt like my back was all twisted!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: ooh I loved the my breast friend pillow when lo1 was really tiny! I never used it in bed, just on a glider or arm chair. good to know it helped!

I could never figure out how to side lying nursing either! And I did all the Motn feedings sitting up in bed and the biggest thing that helped was using a My Breast Friend pillow and then I just used a mess of regular bed pillows behind my back. The my breast friend really helped support my back though and help me sit up straighter.

I just used regular bed pillows for #1 because I also could not figure out how to lay down and nurse but..... along came #2 and I tried it again and it worked! So I would def try it with #2!

Maybe give side lying a try again? Not as a super newborn; but once I started laying down nursing, I never looked back!

Do you have a good back support pillow for when you nurse in bed or otherwise sit in bed for long chunks of time? I'd love recommendations!

Our plan is for lo2 to sleep in a bassinet in our room for the first few months at least, and we don't have room for a glider in there, so I'll most likely be nursing in bed a lot. I never really got the hang of side-lying with lo1, so I'll most likely be sitting up. I occasionally also work in our bed as well (our room is the only place I can "hide" from lo1 to work if she's home since otherwise she just wants mommy to play) and it kills my back, so I already could use something, besides just a mess of pillows, to help make it more comfy! I think I had one of those "husband" style pillows in college, but just a random one that I didn't love...
