LO is newly two, and started at the tail end of his school's summer program. He went in the mornings, 4x a week, for three weeks. He did much better than I thought he would (liked it, even!) Now there's a break between summer and fall, and I am sorta dreading the transition back to school again! But I'm really happy with the teachers and overall school so far, and can't wait to see what he learns this coming year.

Fun post! DS starts his second formal year of preschool after Labor Day. He is excited but upset that he won't be in the same classroom with the same teachers (he thrives on routine). DD is turning 2 in October but I signed her up for early preschool two mornings per week to give her a little more socialization (we have a nanny for the two days I work) and to give me a little time to do some work at home. I'm nervous for her but I think she will really love it once she gets used to it! She starts on 9/13.

Such an exciting time. DS started in the pre-school class at daycare in July. He loves it. The age group is 3-4.5.

I was so nervous about the transition and it went as smooth as could be. I'm still not adjusted. He's been at that daycare for 2.5 years and I'm used to the ways of the baby & toddler room.

@FliegepilzHut: happy all day is great! My son basically didn't eat for a week when he started, and took teeny naps. They'll adjust! Now I love daycare because he eats whatever they serve there so I know he's at least getting one good meal in.

@gilmoregirl: His official move date is Sept 6, so he's got two more weeks of transition. They managed to get him to visit on Friday by having the teacher that he loves go with him, I'm thrilled that they're being so gentle and understanding with him and trying to figure out ways to make him comfortable. Also we told him if he went we would have a celebration with cake and a Paw Patrol car  . We'll see how this week goes. On Friday he told me he didn't want to go because he didn't know anybody's name, which broke my heart, but his teacher took him to show him where they have pictures of everybody and told him all their names, plus we keep reminding him that three other boys from his class are going too. I hope your son's first day goes well tomorrow! Being a parent is so hard!

@erinbaderin: Did your son move yet? How is it going? We went back to full time last week and it went surprisingly well. He's moving to his new classroom tomorrow, and I'm hoping for the best. Most of his little buddies are moving with him, so that should help. I'm so nervous for him! It's so hard.

@FliegepilzHut: Happy is a good start! It took my little guy a while to adjust to daycare when he first started (at about 10 months) and eventually eating and napping got better. Well, eating did. :) He's never been much of a napper, though. Good luck this week!

DS is 3.5. He's been at one preschool since he turned 2, and we've really loved it. We are changing for a few reasons--he doesn't need to do 4 years at the same preschool (he's got 2 more years left because of how his birthday falls), the new preschool is a parent co-op (where I attended as a little one), and it's less than half the cost (!) But I'm nervous. Other than cost, we have no complaints about the old preschool, and I wonder if I'm throwing away something awesome for an unknown. I'll probably reenroll him in the old preschool for summers (the new preschool doesn't do summers), and DS2 will attend there his 2s year if we decide to send him anywhere. But I'm nervous and don't want him to have too much trouble with the transition.

Day#1 went off without a hitch and I'm told DS was "happy all day!" He only slept an hour at school though, and his eating is only so-so, so there's lots to work on. Has anyone else started back? Feeling a little guilty because I'm not working this week...but he needs to get used to it, I guess.

@gilmoregirl: I know, it's so stressful! We talked a lot yesterday about how he's almost too big for his class now because it's for little kids and he's big (he's really into being a big boy) and he was going to go do big kid things, but this morning when my friend saw him at dropoff and asked if he was going to visit the big kids he said "No, I am staying here" very matter of factly. Ugh.

@gingerbebe: I was really worried with how my son would transition to the cot because he had also always slept in a crib and he did fine. Fingers crossed!

My son has never been with anyone other than family but he will start 2.5 year old preschool in a few weeks. I'm worried about him but like that it's 2 hours, 2 days a week so I hope it won't be too overwhelming. I work full time so my parents are fortunately helping with his drop off and pick ups.

H is transitioning to Early Preschool this week. They gave us the supply list last night, sigh, so I am a bit aggravated. I didn't have time to go to the store last night and payday is Friday, plus I have a boatload of laundry to do, so they are just going to have to wait until Monday for her stuff.

DD2 seems excited about her new class at preschool. I decided to place her with the 4-5 year olds (she'll be 3 years 9 months) instead of the 3-4 year olds. She has an older sister so she likes being with older kids anyway. Hope she does well!

My 2.5 yo DD has been in full time daycare for a year now, but in September she's moving up to the big kid class (they divide kids 1-3 and 3-6). They are moving her a few months early because they are getting a lot of new kids in the little class and need to make room. The good thing is that they combine classes most of the summer since so many kids are gone on vacation so she knows everyone and all of the teachers. The big change will be that big brother is now moving on to elementary school so she will be by herself now. They are very close and I get the impression that they play together a lot at daycare, so I hope she doesn't feel too lost without her brother.

DS is 23 months old currently and will start a 2's preschool program in September. He's been home with us since July so I think he might be extra clingy. He was in an in-home daycare before with a handful of other kids. Luckily the class he will be joining only has like 5 kids in it right now (more will join as babies in the infant room age up).

I'm nervous because he's always napped in a crib or pack n play and at preschool they use cots and nap mats. I'm super strict about DS' sleep and his behavior is really tied to his sleep so I'm hoping it will go okay. At daycare he would nap 90 minutes to 2 hours on average but this summer since he's been home he's been sleeping more like 3-3.5 hours!

I also have to start packing lunches for him which I've never had to do before. He's not great at using utensils yet although he's getting much better but he doesn't like getting his hands messy anymore. He also doesn't like sandwiches, plain cheese (he will eat it in things but doesn't snack on cheese), and meat that's not ground, chopped, or processed so we have our work cut out for us.

I SAH and my just turned 3 year old starts preschool in September. Honestly, I'm so excited for both of us. She does great with drop of programs already (she does a 3 hour class at the gym once a week). Like the first time I dropped her off it was "bye mommy!" And no tears. I think she is really ready for more formal preschool and will love it. As it was I had to bribe her to leave the school when we toured it! And me? I need a break from her. I love being home with her but some space will be good for both of us- plus the one on one time with the baby will be good. So I am just very excited and not worried at all. She will only be going two mornings a week.

My son started back to full time daycare today after a summer of part time. He's moving to the 2.5-3 room next week, so there's a lot of change happening at once for him. Hopefully it goes ok. Today he got to touch a snake (reptile visitor!) so he was VERY excited when I picked him up.

@erinbaderin: I actually asked my kid's teachers to stop sending him to the next class up for visits because he does sooo horribly. He does much better for the actual transition. I think maybe the back and forth is confusing and upsets him. I hope things go well for your son! It's so hard to see them struggle.

Oh, me me! My son (2.5) is moving from the toddler (18-30 months) to the preschool room (2.5-4 years) at daycare. In his toddler room there are 8 kids, in preschool there will be 24! He's really shy and I'm really stressed about it. He was supposed to start his transition today with a visit to the new room but he refused to go so we're not off to a great start.

This is a great idea!

E has been in daycare since she was 6 months old, but she's starting in the nursery class at her actual school in September. She's going to have to wear a uniform - and I'm getting emotional just thinking about it! I'm pretty sure the transition will be smooth because she is super confident, even though she will be one of the youngest kids in her year.

DS (12months) is starting "school" (daycare) this week and I am vacillating between being really excited and a nervous wreck... We were fortunate to be able to have in-home care until now, but felt that it's time to let our little boy spread his wings a bit.

I met with his teachers today and feel great about them and the school in general. I just hope that he's going to adapt well...

Would anyone like to check in over the next few weeks about how your (and your LO's!) transition is going?

Happy Back-To-School everyone!
