@gotkimchi: I don't know how the molding would look since you have things on three different levels... the higher cabinets, the lower cabinets, and the top of the range. But I'm a very symmetrical person. Or are the top of the cabinets all level and I'm misunderstanding the perspective of the drawing?

Are you planning to put stuff on top of those cabinets? If so, you might not need to tile back there, you could get away with a matching or coordinating paint.

@kiddosc: I'm going to try to photoshop that one a little so I have an idea what to top of cabinets look like. I have a hard time picturing stuff! My husband was suggesting to top of cabinets and continueing the molding across

@gotkimchi: I definitely prefer to the ceiling. I think it looks very cut off to stop at the bottom of the range when the sides of the range don't touch the cabinets. Similarly, I think it would look cut off to stop at the top of the cabinets since the range is taller than the cabinets.

@kiddosc: thank you I was having a hard time finding pics as well! I don't think I can move the cabinets up because they wouldn't be at a useable height. Do you prefer to the ceiling like the pic over stopping at the top of the cabinets?

Oh, found one... I like this look over stopping at the bottom of the hood.

Can you extend just those two cabinets up to the ceiling, like this picture? I'm guessing this is a kitchen that hasn't been built yet. I also like the idea of just extending the tile up to the ceiling in that area, but can't find a picture of it... so maybe no one else likes that idea. :silly:

ours are all the way up but our cabinets reach all the way up as well so it's really only the range hood.

@gotkimchi: I would go up to the ceiling and across the top of the cabinets on just that one wall. It would really make it a focal point of the kitchen. Like a statement wall.

I think it depends on your ceiling height and the how the materials mix next to each other. It's probably easier to go to the bottom of the hood if it's flat on the bottom like Mrs. Someone's. Our hood has a hollowed space in it which is tiled, so in that case I might go higher on the wall also.

Here's ours. I think it depends on your ceiling height. It would've looked weird to continue our tile to the top of the cabinets because of the high ceilings.

@T.H.O.U.: ok I was originally thinking I wanted it to go up higher but then I realized the cabinets don't go to the ceiling so I didn't know if that was weird. To the top of the cabinets might be good

How high should the backsplash go by the hood? Just to the bottom? Or higher?
