It didn't rain! The food line was indoors but everyone walked through and then returned outside where we had enough tables set up. Also, I took the pre-schoolers out of the kids' favors list and made t-shirts for them instead. That way I had enough kids' favors. Everything really worked out well and very affordable! Thanks for the encouragement!! :)

@pelikila: Thanks so much! I'm getting excited. Except these last minute rsvps are driving me crazy....not enough favors so I have to go order them again or give the add-ons something different.

@eupenmalmody: @Thehistoryofus: That is so brilliant! Thank you. I will do that with the food stations and open up the place. We are going to do a drop-in style and have plenty of seating as we will are borrowing enough tables and chairs.

Thinking back, both hubs and I never had birthday parties outside of immediate family, growing up. I've been to a handful of big ones in my adult years. I keep thinking it's like a wedding...but then again, ours was in a hotel so totally different story.

I would set-up food stations at different locations throughout your house/yard so that everyone isn't congregating around one area at a time. Also, did you want everyone to eat together at a specific time or are you ok with people eating throughout the event? Are you going to have seating for everyone to eat together? I would at least have enought seating for the children, elderly, and extra seating for parents who need to assist their children with eating. My parents have hosted many parties of that size and find that allowing people to eat at their leisure helps to avoid a mass rush to the food line.

Wow that is amazing! I am stressing about hosting a shower for 40 adults next month.

We are hoping to have plenty of seating for everyone. We will try to spread the food out and have multiple food stations.

I don't have any tips or suggestions. I just wanted to say you are amazing for taking on that many people for a birthday party at your home! I am sure it will work out beautifully no matter what but at the same time, I'm hoping someone can chime in for you with a suggestion or two.

Our baby party numbers exploded, post rsvp date, and we are having it in our little house w/ a wraparound yard. How do you make sure an event flows when it is massively overcrowded? Man, it better not rain. Specifically, I'm concerned with the flow of the food and the fire marshal ;). No but really, the food line.
70some adults and 40 kids. ANY TIPS? Some of you may have had backyard weddings or bbqs....hoping for some kind of feedback...
