I feel your pain- my son took horrible naps in the infant room. We had a lot of days where he would only sleep for 30 min max- I have no idea how they dealt with him on that little amount of sleep. My only advice would be to see if you can get them to put the crib against the wall or in the back of the nap area. My son is also very nosy and being in the middle was just too distracting for him. It wasn't a huge help but it was the best they could do. If it's any consolation, even though it seemed like an issue it honestly never affected my son that much. He would be so exhausted that he would sleep really well at night and a lot of times we would get some long naps out of him on the weekends.

@Smurfette: I know.. trust me I feel your pain. I would try whatever you can. Ex: bring in a lovey that they use at home, white noise, etc... I even tried giving them a strict schedule to follow. These things kind of helped. There is just so much stimulation in the infant room.. I'm sorry.. :(

@Smurfette: Yeah, I know it's not much consolation. I would try whatever you can in the meantime with white noise. Our daycare used to also drape a blanket over part of DD's crib to make it a little darker while she was napping, since they rarely turn off the lights in the infant room.

@Smurfette: I thought the same thing. B would fall asleep on this bouncer, and they would move him to crib. The minute they moved him, he'd wake up.

Naps in the infant room were always tough b/c the babies weren't all on the same schedule, so someone was always awake and making noise. I don't have any advice other than to say that it got much better when DD transitioned to the toddler room where they all nap at the same time.

@Smurfette: Aghhh, naps at daycare. They are such a PITA. We tried everything with LO and I'm not sure any of it really worked. He eventually out grew it and I'm hoping (fingers crossed!) it gets better when he is in the toddler room and they all nap at the same time. The infant room is a zoo, since each baby is on their own schedule. It's much easier when all the kids nap at the same time, so they can dim the lights, etc. So, no real advice. Just hang in there! I know it's rough...

@edelweiss: They told me today, that they aren't allowed to let babies sleep anywhere but the crib. If one falls asleep in the boppy or the swing, they have to move them right away to the crib. So stupid. How is making babies not sleep healthy for them???

They did say that otherwise she is doing much better during the day. She is happy and healthy but I just hate how miserable she is from not sleeping.

@Smurfette: i feel your pain. my LO often only gets one 30-minute nap the entire day at daycare (he's 6 months old). there's a licensing provision that prohibits the staff from moving a baby to a crib unless the baby is already asleep--as in, the baby has to fall asleep out in the play area or being rocked to sleep by staff before being transferred to the crib. but LO gets easily stimulated, and does not fall asleep easily. i've asked them to make an exception for him and put him down in his crib when he appears tired, even if he's awake, because the policy is not working for him.

so far things have not improved, although i bring it up from time to time...at this point i feel like short of pulling him out of daycare and getting a nanny, i just have to grin and bear it until he gets to the toddler room where they have a set naptime.

on the slightly brighter side, he is still growing and healthy (as i'm sure your LO is), so i guess it's not a dire situation.

So I talked to the main teachers this morning. The state changed the regulations so they can no longer put R in the Swaddle. The state is worried about SIDS so they want babies to be able to move. So even though her arms are swaddled out, they can't use the sleep sack. I can bring in a regular sleep sack but that is all. Or I would have to have a note from my doctor saying she needs the swaddle to sleep. I have an A&A sleep sack at home, so I will bring that in tomorrow.

So annoying that they can't do the same thing that we do at home.

They did say that they would try and move her crib to the back of the room. I can bring in a sound machine, it can't be in her crib, but they can put on the floor under the crib. I just have to leave plenty of batteries. So I am going to order one on amazon this morning.

@chopsuey119: Sweet! I will have to ask them tomorrow if it is allowed or not. It is so hard some days she naps great but then like today was just awful. I hate that then we do something different on the weekends. Has to be confusing.

Poor baby!!! :( I would ask if they can move her away from the door. Heck, I'd probably take our sound machine and have them play it during naps too.

I'm sorry, I can just send my support. I went through this. M had crappy naps at daycare until she moved to the 1's room and they make all the kids nap at the same time. She survived, though and thrived.

I think we made it a bad situation b/c at home, she has a quiet room with a noise machine and it's dark. It's nothing like that at daycare!!

@BeachMama: I think that is part of it. She is a nosy little thing so I think she also doesn't want to sleep cause she doesn't want to miss anything.

@Adira: The cribs are in a different section, it has dimmer lights but it is still lite. She usually never naps well in her crib. Her crib is right at the front, near the main room, so I think that she hears everything else and feels left out. She usually naps better when she is in this one swing, in the middle of everything. One day last week, they did let her cry a little and she feel asleep in the crib. I am going to talk to the main teachers tomorrow morning and see if we can figure out what is going on. She is just miserable when she doesn't nap.

@Smurfette: Do they have cribs that are separate from the play area? I know some of the babies in my daycare have to be put in their crib in the separate room with the light off, the windows blacked out, and white noise going in order for them to sleep. Do they have something like that? And maybe they already tried it and it's not working? Maybe they need to do a little CIO for her there? Although that won't work if they don't have a separate room or if other babies are napping and they really don't want her to disturb them...

Sorry I dont have much advice. DD was a horrible napper at daycare especially when she was an infant. At home she'd nap for at least an hour. At daycare we were lucky if she napped 30 minutes. In the infant room there was no set schedule so different babies were napping at different times, which I think made it hard for DD to nap. She's very interested in whats going on around her. Now she's moved into the Toddler room and they're on a set schedule which I think helps.

For the 2nd time in a week, R has napped a total of 35 mins all day at day care. She usually does 3 or 4 30 Mon naps. She had just fallen asleep when I got there tonight, so she fell back asleep in the car, so at least she got a 30 min nap on the way home.

The teachers said that they try everything to get her nap. Even swaddled her while giving a bottle and she wouldn't nap today.

Could see be getting overstimulated? What else can I do to get her to nap better? On the weekends she usually gives us 30-45 mins, and we put her down every two hours, if not sooner.
