My DS's birthday is right around Christmas. For his 3rd birthday, we bought him a bike with training wheels. Problem was that it was very heavy and hard to ride and he never used it much. When he was close to 4.5, we bought him a new, bigger, much lighter bike with no training wheels. He learned to ride it in just 2 weekends and can now ride it just fine. I think you should look into a real bike, but try to find something lightweight. We bought a brand called Woom, and they have a really great trade-in policy, which was a big draw.

My daughter loves her early rider lite balance bike, but also can't get the hang of using the pedals on the tricycles at school. So we are holding off on getting her a bigger bike even though she has been begging for pedals. Do you ever ride with her? Ours seems to get a big kick out of that.

DD got a Strider (classic) Balance bike last Christmas. She was about 25 months old at the time and I thought it'd be a great gift (from my parents), but she just never took to it.. We've tried adjusting the seat up and down to see what's comfy, but I guess the whole set up is just awkward for her, and she doesn't care for it :(

She also has a Radio flyer Trike (4-in1). She tries to ride it but for the most part, does not do well with the pedals, or riding in general. She just scoots along with her feet, and I've noticed she does this at daycare with their "bikes" as well.. She doesn't bother to pedal and basically squats and walks/runs the direction she wants to go. She doesn't sit back in the seat so her "form" is off(?) Some of her peers can ride well, and some do what she does.

I really would love for her to learn to ride a bike (eventually). She's now 3 and we haven't done a great job of practicing because she just kind of gives up/loses interest quickly..

Should I continue to offer/encourage the Strider, or get another bike altogether? The in-laws are offering to get her a ~$100 gift for Christmas so this would be my chance to get her a big ticket item, haha. Little bro will be getting a scooter (which she already has).
