Usually lo1 is fine playing in his blocked off area but sometimes (usually the afternoon nap) he needs the tv on. He has a special chair to watch tv so he'll usually stay put. I don't like it but it's what works for now.

Same issue here. Usually the beco plus walking rocking works. Took us a while to get to this point.

If you figure this out, let me know! My poor baby gets her naps interrupted all the time. I do white noise to drown out some of the background noise. When I am alone and putting my baby to sleep at night, I put my toddler in the hall where I can see him with one of his shows on the iPad. That keeps him busy and still while I"m getting my baby down, but her sleep does suffer in general!

@Lindsay05: she sleeps through big sister being loud just fine!

I used this analogy with my husband to help him understand my frustration: "I can sleep through you snoring as long as I fall asleep first, but I have the hardest time falling asleep if you're in bed before me and already snoring!"

We used a lot of white noise for the baby. We still do actually at 10 months. Darn toddlers always do the opposite of what you ask.

We have the same problem. DS1 always wakes up little brother - either by being loud or wanting to hold his hands and give him kisses. How can I fuss at that?

No real advice. He sleeps better when big bro is at preschool.

@Little Misters Mom: it is a never ending battle with her. We've done the iPad trick and she turns the volume up full blast, so we tell her to turn it down, whih cause a huge tantrum which wakes the baby.

Then I started putting the baby down in another room. Chloe would run down the hall screaming and wake the baby.

Sometimes I think she's just looking for attnwtion and purposefully creates negative attention.

This is so frustrating.

The swing was our best friend. Either that or the ergo or car seat. At 6 months we're still trying to figure out how to get the little guy to nap in his crib. So far trying to get him down for his first nap before DH goes to work and second nap after big brother goes down for his nap work best. If we get a third nap it's on the go - car seat, stroller or ergo depending on what we're doing.

We only have one, but I've read that some people who had this issue while nursing the baby create a super special toy basket for the older sibling (fancy stickers, the iPad, stuff for the dollar aisle at Target, whatever is quiet and very enticing to her) that only comes out at that time. Maybe you could try and see if the novelty of special toys is enough to keep her quiet interest long enough.

Aww, that sounds hard with an older toddler. My LO 1 was a lot younger (16-20 months) and easily distracted with a book or toy when LO 2 was a newborn.

I hope you find something that works soon. Feel better Chloe!

My biggest struggle is meeting both kids sleep needs during the day. Chloe is three and usually doesn't nap, even though I think she still needs to. Her cranky level says she does!

Charlotte is 11 weeks and my biggest struggle is getting Chloe to settle down/quiet down enough to let Charlotte drift to sleep.

I was inspired to post this today because Chloe is home sick. I had just nursed Charlotte and she was drifting off for her first nap when Chloe decided it would be a great time to play her flute after I'd already told her not to. So she went and got her drum set instead.

How do you parent both kids while getting the infsnt to sleep? It's not like I can be in another room and let my three year old be alone! But, at the same time, she refuses to play quietly and won't sit and read with me, or play something quietly with me.

Once Charlotte is asleep isn't the problem. It's *getting* the poor kid to sleep!
