@Clementine: the one I bought has tiny beads (he would be able to swallow them, they are smaller than the hole in a cheerio) and they are knotted between every bead so even if it pops open only one bead would fall off. The clasp is made so that if the baby gets the necklace caught on something and falls, the clasp will pop open (break) and prevent strangulation. All the moms I know who use that one that I bought say their LO will pull on it but not hard enough to trigger the clasp to break.
I'm more concerned about it being a total waste of money. :P

DD has been wearing hers since Monday (a necaklace that we keep around her wrist wrapped 3x & and anklet) and I think I'm starting to see a difference. This is the first day in a week I haven't had to give her tylenol b/c she was so fussy and clearly hurting (she was ferociously trying to rub her gums & kept grabbing her jaw/cheek it was terrible to see) She's also drooling ALOT less!

I hope that the longer she wears it the better her symptoms get! And that is MAY even help her tummy issues since it supposedly helps inflammation.

The one I got has no choking hazard because the beads are way too small.
I just got it today and I don't know what I think yet (it is cute though)

The amber is supposed to secrete a substance that dulls pain, so take that with a grain of salt. The beads aren't meant to be chewed on.

We have one for Sawyer (my SIL who is a naturopath bought it for us). I feel like it is a strangulation risk, so he wears it around his ankle (double wrapped). I can't say if it makes any difference though.

@Mrsdaredevil: They just need to be worn, in fact they should fit quite snugly so they can't pull it into their mouth.

Question about this....do they help just by the baby wearing them or by the baby chewing on them?

Love ours, he wears it all the time. We had some really awful weeks in early teething, he was so grumpy, drooling like crazy, and had several nursing strikes. He still can be cranky at times, but nothing like before- I can't say 100% that it is the necklace because I am too afraid to take it off and find the little monster back again! No side effects that I have seen other than a happy baby.

I don't know of any negatives. If you get it from a reputable company then the string should be knotted between each bead so that if it were to break then only that one bead would come off. I haven't used one on DD but do have one for myself which I thought would help my headaches (not migraines but still pretty bad when I get them) and didn't see any big change.

I would try it... but keep in mind amber CAN break -- it's not a super hard stone. I have had amber jewelry break. In fact, many people say it breaks when it's around bad vibes LOL. So just to keep in mind.

I haven't heard of any side effects or negatives. We keep one on my son almost constantly. I don't swear by them, but I do think it helps.

I just love how a lot of celebrities have them for their babies... so that is the only reason I would get one lol.

I have one on my LO all the time, for about the past 4 months. It came off for a few days after she puked on it, and in those few days she was SO fussy and bit me several times while nursing. I washed it and put it back on, and on it has stayed. I'm convinced. She plays with it and pulls on it and chews on it, and I don't think it's at risk for breaking. She has several friends who also wear theirs all the time. I don't think there are any side effects.

I have definitely seen a lot of information about people loving baltic amber for relieving teething pain with their LOs. I know I have seen that there is no medical proof supporting the use for teething pain.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any "side effects" or negative things about using baltic amber teething necklaces (other than the possible choking risk if a bead would come off).
