@Dandelion: She was very excited. And when she launched into it her tirade she pulled back and hurried the papers & checks. I don't think she was accusing me of trying to commit insurance fraud, but she was loud enough that when i heard another customer stand behind me I wished the teller was using her in door voice. She was saying alot about the scrutiny these type of checks go through and all of it was unnecessary. Maybe that was a her way of apologizing for not being able to help me. I don't know. The whole interaction rubbed me the wrong way.

That's rude! Did she say it in an accusatory way? She can just state the policy and you can just bring in your husband. No need to act as if you're trying to commit insurance fraud!

She was being rude about it!

I was a teller (in Canada) and its illegal for checks to be put into an account like you're describing. I had no idea that was the case before working in a bank. You can't have someone sign a check and then put it in your account. Period. Some tellers will let you if they know you/know the situation well, but it's not allowed. It used to be though! Again.. this is Canada so not sure about where you are!

This has happened to me, but it was a measly little co-op check from when my ex husband and I belonged to a co-op phone company. They'd send the check in both of our names, even though we were divorced and it was such a hassle. They would require him to be present and sign in front of them, not happening.

@wheres_c: Too late now. I arrived minutes before the bank closed. If I go back there I will discuss the associate's vernacular with a manager. The teller should just simply state policy as professionally as possible. All of the other stuff is off-putting.

I've never heard of that nonsense! Can you ask for the manager?

So I tried to deposit our claim settlement check and cannot because DH is not on my account. The check is made out to both of us and is endorsed by both of us. The clerk started to explain DH would need to come into the bank with me and brung his ID she launched into a "you don't play with insurance checks!" Who's playing? I was so irritated. Who are these people working at the bank. Speak to me like an adult!
