Especially if they're really religious. </p> <p>My family is pretty particular about things like Bibles. I never buy a book for my brother's family without running it by them first. </p> <p>And usually they have a good idea of what each child could use for their room (a crucifix, statue, etc.) or if they need a rosary or medal of some sort. </p> <p>I wouldn't buy any sort of home decor unless you KNEW it was the family's taste. I have never heard of people giving cash for a baptism, but maybe that is a Catholic thing? When my son was baptized, a few close family members who attended the baptism got him some small gifts - a cross for his room, a little music box that plays "Jesus Loves Me," a children's illustrated Bible. Things like that. He was only 2 months old when he was baptized.</p> <p>Edit to add: my absolute favorite thing he got was something that our church does for every child who is baptized. I got a Desmond Tutu book called Children of God for one of my kids and it has been my favorite gift to receive.
