Just for a different opinion, I'll say that, though we used the RNP for the first 2 weeks, I was really uncomfortable letting LO sleep in it for long stretches at night. Because his chin is always tucked into his chest in it, and that's not really safe. Maybe it's just the way I was positioning him? But we switched to a bed cosleeper (http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Sleeper-Portable-Bedding/dp/B005ASKQ42) and I LOVE it. We have a king size bed though, so we have plenty of room for it.

I love the rock n play. Ds has reflux so the incline is key. It is also within arms reach of me on the side of the bed whichever is great.

@Pepper: I would say its about the height of a regular bassinet, maybe a little lower. It sits right next to my side of the bed. Our bed is really low, so the RNP is actually higher than my bed, which means I have to sit up to get a good look at her. At a regular bed height, though, I think it would be perfect. I love not having to get out of bed in the middle of the night to grab her & change/feed her.

We used the Cariboo folding bassinet: http://www.amazon.com/Cariboo-Folding-Bassinet-Espresso/dp/B007BIPGFS/ref=sr_1_10?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1362195556&sr=1-10

I liked it, and it was nice having the baby next to the bed in the early days (sometimes I wish we still did - I miss him when he's sleeping in his nursery!). It was also great to be able to move it around the apartment - when he was a newborn we put it next to the couch in the living room during the day, and he took naps in it and sometimes played in it a little.

We use a rock n play for naps and also used it for sleep the first couple of weeks. Now we use a pack n play with a bassinet level (he's 2 months old). He doesn't seem to mind the crappy mattress in the slightest, and likes the vibration feature ours has.

@photojane: We registered for this too! Do you put it right next to the bed? I guess I thought they were pretty low to the ground (and I was picturing tripping over him in it!). That sounds like a good solution.

@pastemoo: Do you remember the brand?

I got a "travel bassinet" that folds up--we used it all day. On the couch, on the floor, wherever. It was great! But we had him right by me in the crib at night from the get go--the bassinet was for day use for us.

Rock n Play! Sadie is only about 3 weeks now, but she does great in it. The incline makes me feel less nervous about spit up and SIDs. I put her in it awake at night with her paci & rock it, and she's out in just a few minutes. It's perfect for beside the bed, but I've carried it all over the house. Its extremely portable. I even take it in the bathroom when I shower and she just cuddles up in there and listens to the water.

So we just got done registering (SO tiring - glad I did it now!), and we are kind of stuck regarding a bassinet. We are planning on having baby sleep in our room for the first couple of months. I initially wanted to get the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper, but the mattress pad just seemed SO hard and uncomfortable in the store. Maybe that's normal? No idea!

Does anyone care to share which bassinet they have/had? Thoughts about what you like/don't like? Even if you used something in lieu of a traditional bassinet... I'd like to hear about it!
