@looch: France would be closer, but I did manage to track it down on a Swiss-German site. I just had to have Google Translate open in the next window! lol Always an adventure...

@Pumuckl: thanks! Yeah, Switzerland doesn't have it's own amazon, can you believe that!?

I found it on a Swiss website though, though it did take some sleuthing!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: here's the link on amazon, don't know why it kept redirecting me to the German store instead of the Swiss website though: http://www.amazon.de/Hauck-H-89070-EN-000-T06-890707-Sleeper-beige/dp/B005MXJS9O/ref=pd_bxgy_75_text_y

I have a baby (now toddler) who HATES the sub-par mattress in the PNP. I guess she prefers the cushy mattress in our bed (we coslept off and on for the first year) or her mattress in her crib. When she was little I layered a thin quilt over the mattress and covered it with a fitted sheet, but now that she's older I cut a mattress pad (like an egg crate) to fit and cover that with the fitted sheet. You can buy mattresses to fit the travel crib though.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: DD slept on a crappy PnP mattress for the first 6 months of her life and didn't mind! My in-laws have a PnP for her up at their cabin and bought a thicker mattress that fits perfectly inside....maybe this travel crib has that kind of option as well? But my point is, your baby might not mind the crappy mattress. :happy:

@looch: oh thanks! That helps!

And thanks everyone for your feedback! I will see what DH thinks we should do. But I'm not worried now if we just decide to leave it as-is.

I had a quilted waterproof mattress pad that I intended to use over the somewhat spartan PnP mattress, but when I put it on it seemed way to squishy for a newborn and I was paranoid. So I let her sleep on the safe but less comfy mattress because it met the safety standards and nothing scares me more than SIDS (I wouldn't even get a RnP to sleep because it didn't meet standards so maybe I'm more paranoid than most). But once she was older (4+ mo I think) I added it back in because she was moving a lot more and it didn't seem like a risk and she was more comfortable. That has seemed to be plenty for her!

I googled Hauck travel cot and this site says it offers a second mattress option:

http://www.hauckuk.com/uk-collection/dream-n-care.33.1.12.1_info.html?c=60810

It looks like there's just a sling, though, as the main surface. I'd try it out and see if it works...but beware the return policy might mean you can't return/exchange it.

The mattress really isn't comfy at all. Newborns don't seem to mind but at 9 months on a trip she slept horribly. I dunno if it was the mattress or being in a weird place. Apparently she loves her comfy crib.

We had a Arm's Reach co sleeper/mini crib and the mattress was really thin, but LO didn't seem to mind. I found that changing pad covers fit the mattress so I didn't buy bassinet sheets.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: I've seen some bassinet mattresses for sale that fit standard bassinets, that are a little thicker than the pad that comes with it--maybe you can get one of those if you are concerned?

E slept in a pack and play in our room to start with. The "mattress" was also less than impressive, but he never seemed to mind. He slept in the pack and play when we traveled up until he was 2.5, and he never had any issues with it. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

We registered for this little thingy for the baby to sleep in our room in the beginning. I guess it's a travel crib. I saw it in person for the first time today, and was less than impressed with the "mattress" it comes with.

If your baby slept in something similar, did you put anything else on there? I know putting something like a blanket or whatever is a no-no...but I thought it would have a different type of mattress that I could buy a fitted sheet for. Now I'm just confused. Am I over thinking this?
