Thanks for all your help ladies!!! I will definitely be repairing my bathroom a lighter and brighter color..it's a dark gray currently and I'm just not feeling it! Im thinking of a creamy neutral or a pale blueish aqua!

I like bars for towels that will be folded nicely (ie hand towels or in the guest bath) but for everyday use I prefer hooks. They are easier and to get the towel to dry nicely it has to take up the whole bar so then you need two.

I like the pale aqua suggestion or a pale gray with some pretty accessories in fun colors.

For "just for show" towels I use a bar, but for my shower towels ive always used a hook. It totally dries!

We just painted our bathroom BM Palladian blue, and are doing coral accents. Our master bath at old house was also a shade of blue, so I guess I'm a fan of blue bathrooms? Lol

Our old house with a tiny bathroom had a staggered double towel bar (like the above pictured, but one was above the over and went out farther.) Obviously the hooks give you more towels but I find the towels can fall off or not dry enough. Maybe do a bar (or a double bar!) and then an over-the-door hook to use occasionally?

Also our bathroom was the palest light blue, almost a little grey- very pretty. I think it made the lighting really true when I looked in the mirror.

I always hang decorative towels on the bars and use hooks behidn the door for drying towels.

I also am partial to blues and greens in bathrooms!

We have a hook on top of a bar! But we also have a hook on the back of the door. Usually one towel goes on the bar, one on the hook. But Wagon Sr.'s almost always ends up hung on one of his dresser knobs. Cue Mrs. Wagon having to tiptoe out into the bedroom, dripping wet, to grab the nearest dry towel!

I was just in a bathroom that was pale aqua and it was GORGEOUS.

I like hooks because towel bars always look messy to me and the towels fall off far too easily. Who wants to fold their towel after using it so that it will look nice on the bar?

Hooks keep our towels off the floor and dry them just fine, but I can see how others might think hooks always look messy :)

ETA: My bathrooms have always been a combo of crisp white and aqua blues. Reminds me of water and they are calming for me which is what I think of when I am relaxing in a tub. Our current bathroom has original 1950 pink and mint green tile so we are sticking with it and keeping all accessories white. I miss my aqua blue.

Our upstairs full bath has the original Pink/Black tile from the 50's but a newer black vanity with ivory marble top and white sink bowl. We kept it simple and just did white paint (Martha Stewart Picket Fence) and got a fun bright colored polka dot shower curtain. We have 2 Towel bars on the back of our door instead of hooks. (like you we have no wall space for a bar)

In the downstairs half bath, we did white bead board half way up the wall then a greyish aqua blue (Sherwin Williams Watery) we have a lot of dark wood in that room (floors, vanity)

Our master is kind of odd and we only have towel hooks (which I HATE). The way the door swings open though, we can't really put a towel bar w/out possibly hitting it every time. Kind of an awkward remodel issue from the previous owner.

Our bathrooms are both very neutral colored. A kind of beige in the master (to go with the travertine) and a grey in the guest bath.

Our full bath is pretty small, so we have two towel hooks so we can both hang up our towels. As far as paint colors, it really depends on your specific bathroom. My bathroom is painted Porter Paint's Acapulco Cliffs, which is a really deep, rich turquoise, but that color is really bright in a room with natural light (our bathroom has no windows). I love it, and it is such a change from the previous owner's orange. It helps the old tile look better until we can do a complete reno.

I prefer a bar cause I feel like it should get more air when it's not up against the wall. What about a double towel bar like this: http://www.amazon.com/Moen-DN8422CH-Preston-24-Inch-Double/dp/B000O24NSO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374676917&sr=8-1&keywords=double+towel+bar

In our bathroom we have the opposite problem. DH puts his towel on the rack and says it never fully dries, whereas my towel goes on a hook on the back of the door and it fully dries.

So we are doing some small home renovation projects at the moment and I have a couple of questions about bathrooms. What is the best paint color for a bathroom?? I have been pinteresting bathroom colors for days and I just can't decide what looks best! Also, which works better for towel hanging? Towel hook or towel bar?? My husband says towel hooks don't dry the towels very good but our bathroom is pretty small and there isn't room for two towels bars so currently our towels hang on top of one another...annoying to me! Help!!
