@SugarplumsMom: It is a good suggestion! I just don't love the look. I really like the brightness of the brushed or champagne gold.

@Portboston: The hard to match part is something I'm wary of, especially since it isn't a super common finish so it's not easy to, for example, find a sink faucet and shower faucet from the same line. I'm leaning more and more toward the combining tones. I really love the brushed gold in the shower so I'm just not ready to let go yet!

As per timelessness, how about unlacquered brass? They age and patina so nicely and have a more traditional look. I love the idea that it changes over time and it's a living finish

I did brushed gold in mine and my ex’s guest bath and black in the master bath. The one thing I can say - gold is hard to match to other gold. It wasn’t as popular when we did it 5 years ago so we had a tough time finding things that went together. If you find a specific item you love (ie faucet) see if they have a whole line so you don’t have to worry about matching!

I redid my master bathroom with champagne gold fixtures 2 years ago and love it. I have some other colors in my bathroom though (pic is project when unfinished, but almost there). If you’re doing mostly white I love the look of black fixtures. I don’t think you can go wrong either way! Make 1 project board each way with all the fixtures/finishes you like and maybe seeing it all together will help?

I thought the same about the brushed gold potentially getting lost in all the white. DH likes this combo (pictured) so I may do something like that. I have a shower faucet and handle I really like that are brushed gold but otherwise I may do an every other pattern on the vanity (like in the pic—black hardware, gold faucet, black mirror—though I might do the opposite). Unfortunately a designer isn’t in the budget. Our house is in really good shape and pretty new (1998) but the previous owners made some questionable choices on things that are, aside from the bathroom, fairly easy to change (think carpets, lights, and cabinet colors). So we’re slowly tackling them. They had remodeled the bathroom 2 years before we moved in and it’s beige on beige on beige so despite not liking needing to spend tons of money, I’m glad we have an excuse to redo it (shower and floor are basically falling apart—they did a really shoddy job).

We have brushed brass in our kitchen (our faucet is actually “gold” but they match more or less). The finish is a bit more delicate on the one fixture that is “gold”. The brass pulls have been durable. So I guess in the bathroom just keep in mind cleaning and perhaps not being able to use anything abrasive. In all of our babtheooms we have matte black fixtures, lighting and pulls. I love them, but since our hard surfaces are marble and cool grays/whites, it definitely skews to a more modern look. Toothpaste definitely shows up on the black, but it easily cleans without worry of damaging the finish. We used watermark Brooklyn for all of our bathroom fixtures and cedar and moss for a lot of our accent lighting. I used moen and kohler for a few other matte black fixtures and liked them as well. Have fun!

Eta:
I just went back and reread your post. Given your other finishes, some contrast might be good if you are primarily using white and light gray. Or perhaps a floor tile with some interest or using a beautiful tile from Fireclay Bedrosoan or something in your niche if you have one. The gold might get lost in all of that light and bright

Secondly, since you mention this is the first project you are tackling, bringing a designer on might be worth it! If you know the house isn’t your style but aren’t quite sure what direction to go in that you BOTH like, a designer is typically really good at mediation and figuring out what your tastes are, or at least giving you some options that you can discover you both like. And it can set the tone for the rest of the remodeling you might do down the line.

I love the gold. I think it's classic. I say get what you truly like! I used to second guess these types of details, but in the end you're the only one that will see it and admire it everyday. So even if it isn't your forever home, just get what you like best. Plus hardware is easy to switch out if ever you change your mind.

@Becky: If you aren't worried about resale, do what you love! Maybe try something a bit lighter gold to appease your husband?

@crazydoglady: It’s our forever home (or at least until retirement). The style of the house right now isn’t really my style at all so that’s a blank slate. I have seen some combos of matte black and brushed gold so I could try that—I’m just terrible thinking how to do it! I know I for sure want the shower faucet and handle brushed gold.

@Becky: I think it depends on a couple of factors: Are you intending to move anytime soon? If you are, what's your target buyer like?

What's the decor in the rest of your house like? It it more modern/midcentury or more on the farmhouse/rustic? I would try to keep with the vibe of you already have going.

You could also try mixing black and gold.

We’re basically doing a gut reno of our master bath this summer (contracting it out). DH said he was fine with me picking everything out, but I went against my gut instincts and showed him what I was planning. He likes everything except the brushed/champagne gold hardware I had planned on. Now I’m second guessing. I love how bright and slightly feminine it is, but is it too trendy? The other option I would go with would be matte black. Thoughts? Here are examples of each. We will have a walk in shower with white subway tile and white grout, a white vanity with Carrara marble top, and some kind of white based tile for the floor. The reno date had been moved up to June but has since been pushed back to at least August again so I have some more time to plan.

Brushed gold examples: https://thehappyhousie.porch.com/25-stunning-bathrooms-with-gold-hardware/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=tailwind_tribes&utm_content=tribes&utm_term=584412080_21872030_350069
