If you find a great deal, it'll save some $, but otherwise the contractor may be able to get a better deal on it. Of course, whether he passes that deal to you is another question. I don't know if it was a DIY thing and not knowing what to do, or just pure cost savings, but if you can, pay to get it done professionally. We are hoping to renovate before having our first baby at the end of the year but the cost is going to be a big factor. I think a lot of high dollar numbers are tied to your tile selection, and the amount of tile in the bathroom. I had some contractors out this morning and we're waiting to hear back on the estimates. Just from hearing them talk, I'm already sure it will be more than we were hoping! Our house was built in '59 and this is the original pink tile master bathroom. It will need to be gutted with new plumbing, sink, tub, etc. I don't think we have the skills necessary to do much DIY.</p> <p>How did you keep costs down on your bathroom reno? Any great renovation tips? Any pics you want to share? </p>
