When our LO got too big for his Fisher Price bathtub, we just went ahead and moved him into the big tub. He has a mat he sits on and a whale covering the spout. His daddy sits beside the tub, helping coral the toys within LO's reach, and I sit in the tub, making sure he doesn't slip-slide too much. He loves the freedom of it.

Whenever we're in a hurry, we just clear everything around the sink in the kitchen and plop him in that. Even though he's big for his age - wearing 18 month clothing at 12 months, 70% on the growth charts, etc - he still loves nothing more than to be in water. He doesn't slide around as much as the big tub, doesn't try to mess with the drain like the big tub, and we can get him in and out with a lot less hassle.

DS went straight into the big tub once he could sit up on his own. We didn't use a mat early one because he would stay seated or crawl around. Now that he stands up, we have a rectangular mat so he doesn't slip.

Thanks everyone! I think we're going to go with a mat like the one @babyboecksmom recommended. We live in an apartment so space is somewhat of an issue for us, so a mat is ideal.

There little bath seats you can get too, if you didn't want to go the tub route.

We just use a rubber mat in the tub (alligator one from Ikea) since he was a couple months old. Before he was sitting, I would just lay him down and put a hand towel under his head.

@birdieputt: This looks great, I wish we had gone with this from the start!

@zippylef: @BabyBoecksMom: @sarbear: Do you have a rubber mat or something like that at the bottom of the tub? We tried bathing her in the big tub but she was sliding all over the place!

We put her baby tub in the big tub and gave her baths in there. Once she started trying to climb out of it, we moved her into the big tub, but made sure to have a mat and a spout cover in there.

I just transitioned my 8mo babies to a Primo EuroBath. http://www.amzn.com/B000056OV0. I bought mine at Buy Buy Baby. Lots more room for them to splash about!

My LO is 8 months and sits on her own. We've been using an infant bathtub (Fisher Price whale tub) for bath time but I think she's pretty much outgrown it. We'd like to buy another tub for larger babies but preferably not an inflatable one. Can anyone please recommend one?
