Hi Muggle Born--another poor sleeper here!

As you can see from the responses, it varies for every person. I remember a section in that book discussing this--some women's BBTs are affected easily by night wakings, etc., while others are not. I agree with @FoodNerd81 that it is a trial and error process.

I also get up frequently in the middle of the night to pee or just wake up naturally. I usually check the clock and if it's close to my temp time (about 6am) I take the temp before I get up. If it's 3am I'll go to the bathroom then fall asleep and take it when I wake up. I've never had an issue with my temps really being out of whack.

I have this problem too, but I have actually noticed that even if I get up at, say, 3 am to go to the bathroom, my temp at 5:45 (my 'standard' time to take it) is still about where it should be. If I'm up lots of times, it will be a little higher.
One thing I've done is set my alarm for an hour before my REAL alarm, so I wake up, pop the thermometer in, and go back to sleep. I record the temp when I really wake up. Otherwise I found I was always waking up earlier than my temp time and it was stressing me out. It's definitely a trial and error thing (at least for me!).

This is actually exactly why temping didn't work for me. I usually wake up at least once a night to use the restroom. And it was really hard for me to get a resting temp at a consistent time every day. So I decided it was way more stress than it was worth for me. If we had had trouble getting pregnant I probably would have tried harder but luckily we didn't.

Yes, I wouldn't worry about it too much! I've noticed that even when I wake up in the middle of the night and get up to use the restroom, my temps still aren't THAT out of whack. They might be a little higher than normal, but nothing so extreme that FF can't figure out when I actually ovulate.

yep, as long as you don't get out of bed and move around too much. sometimes if you don't fall back asleep right away, it can throw the temp off, but you can make a note of it in your chart and discard it (even though Fertility Friend does not recommend that).

I just ready Taking Charge of Your Fertility, and am hoping to start temping and charting seriously on my next CD1. But, I have a question. I shoot to take my BBT around 7:30 every day...but sometimes I wake up at 4am, 5am, or 6am...I am not a good sleeper. I think the rule is you are supposed to sleep at least three hours before taking your BBT. So, if I go to bed at midnight, awake at 5am (but don't move out of bed or anything) and then go back to sleep, can I still take my BBT at 7:30 and get an accurate reading?
