I agree with @Adira - doesn't bother me to know the guest list or not...shouldn't affect my decision to go or not. And if for some reason my husband is not invited and I want to make carpool decisons, I just text/email my friend and ask them I was thinking of trying to carpool to the party with so-and-so but wanted to make sure he/she was invited

I agree with what many have said - on an evite where the e-mail addresses aren't shared, I show the guest list (same with Facebook event invitations), but if it's an e-mail, I ALWAYS BCC because I'm respecting people's privacy by not sharing their e-mail with all of my friends.

I guess it doesn't bother me though when the guest list isn't shared - it really shouldn't matter to me who else is invited to decide if I want to go, right? And you could always just ask the host "Hey - I'd love to make travel arrangements with so-and-so, but I wasn't sure if they were invited" and then I'm sure the host will tell you. They would definitely appreciate you asking them BEFORE asking your friend, just in case your friend wasn't invited.

This recently happened to me and I was PISSED. I created a Facebook event, invited all my friends, and the guest list was public, so everyone could see who was invited. Then a couple of my friends told THEIR friends about the party and came back to me and were all "Oh, we were telling so-and-so about your party and they were really interested in coming! Can we invite them?"

Sooooo... just ask the host who's invited (or ask about specific people) and I'm sure they'll tell you.

I prefer that actually because some people like to reply all and I hate getting all the responses!

I think it would be weird to hide the guest list on an evite (I've never gotten one like that), but I HATE getting huge emails with lots of people CC'd, mainly because of a little thing called "reply all." BCC would keep me from getting a bunch of annoying one-line replies, so I would appreciate that. I would want to know who else is invited to something, though!

@Thehistoryofus: I know I thought about that too! And strangely enough I'm not as curious about the guest list when I get an invitation snail-mailed to me. I can't explain why!

It's annoying but old fashioned invites sent through the mail didn't tell you the guest list.

On an evite - I don't see the need to hide the guestlist because you see the names not the email addresses.
On an email - I'm totally guilty of hiding the list! Only because I feel that email addresses are like phone numbers these days and are personal. Most email programs will automatically add addresses to your address book and the whole, accidentally (or not so accidentally) hitting 'reply all' is super annoying. I don't want to be the one that gave out everyone's email address. But this is only true for large get togethers. If it was a dinner or something, I wouldn't hide the guest list.

@MamaMoose: That's a good point about privacy issues. In the dinner party situation, however, I'm sure the organizer isn't doing it to respect peoples privacy since it couldn't be a big group and unless there is an ancillary friend of hers I've never met, we're all Cc'd on emails together on the regular about other things - so we have each others addresses.

It would bother me if someone hid the guest list on an evite. But on a regular email I think bcc'ing is OK. It respects people's privacy. I sometimes get really annoyed when someone sends out a huge email invite and DOESN'T use bcc because I don't want all those people to have my email address.

Does it annoy you when you receive an email or evite inviation in which the guest list is hidden? For some reason this really irritates me. It's not so bad when it's for something super casual like a happy hour, but I recently was invited to a sit down dinner where the guest list was Bcc'd. I'm annoyed because I want to know who else might be there and possibly make travel arrangements with other friends who are going, but now I can't ask anyone if they've been invited for fear of hurting someones feelings.

I've also gotten evites where the guest list was hidden and I don't like that either for the same reason. Before committing I like to know what kind of a party it's going to be which is determined by the guest list!

And I don't want to ask the host for the guest list or if so-and-so is invited, because then she'll think I'm scoping things out first before committing (which is true, but it's more civil not to rub it in the organizers face).
